GUEST POST with Annie Seaton

GUEST POST with Annie Seaton

Ok, ok. I know. It has been forevah! I had a lot of unforeseen circumstances and basically had to rearrange my entire life so that everything would jive together again. Unfortunately that meant that the blog took a back seat to DH, kiddos, and the business. But I have finally reached a point that everything is working out and I can now get back to the way things should have been…at least in my world. Because when there is no reading, reviewing, or blogging, I get totes unhappy. I have already felt a bazillion times better since I cracked the cover of the first book in several months, promptly demolished it, and followed with six more reads. Whoot whoot! If that is not happiness, then I don’t know what is. And so here is the plan …

When I skipped out suddenly, I literally skipped out. On a ton of posts. Seriously. So many so that I can fill an entire month with these abandoned posts. So I went ahead and scheduled out the whole month with said posts. I do this because I feel bad about not making good on my commitments. It cheapens me, the blog, and lets down the author, book, and tour company. Luckily, these tour companies have been extremely forgiving and have not held a grudge. That said, you will see this exact paragraph in the beginning of each of these posts for the month. I will be interspersing both old and new posts so that you all aren’t overwhelmed with what you may have already read. But I figure that promo whether early, or late, is overall better that never. And so I carry on. I hope that many of these posts bring new authors and books to your attention, and if you have had the opportunity to read any of them, then I definitely would like you to weigh in on your opinions. I could go on forever, but I think it would be best to just get going. So without further adieu, please allow me to introduce to the blog:

**ANNIE SEATON**

**BIO**

I live in Australia, on the beautiful north coast of New South Wales. I sit in my writing chair and look out over the tranquil Pacific Ocean.Retired from the world of full time work, I am fulfilling my lifelong dream of writing, and currently have nine books published and available, with more to come in 2014.

I write contemporary romance and love telling the stories that always have a happily ever after.
I live with my own hero of many years. Our two children are now grown up and married, and we have two beautiful grandchildren. We share our home with "Bob" the dog and two white cats.

My love of reading and history began at an early age and I was a child who always carried a book (or two) no matter what I was doing. Several of my favourite books were confiscated from underneath my desk by teachers who had no understanding of my capacity to read while I was doing my schoolwork!
My love of writing developed in "composition" classes during primary school and continued throughout the completion of an English and History degree.
My working life has seen me through several major career changes. I now have retired from the world of full time work and have fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming a published author.

**GUEST POST**

Gracie’s quest to find her sister in Dangerous Desire takes her from the dry, desolate outback to luxurious locations in a tropical playground. From a beautiful waterfront home where we had a little descriptive snippet over at the Insert Clever Quip Here blog post, to a luxury motor cruiser.
What is it about a large white boat that makes us long to board and travel to exotic locations? Remember Meryl Streep in Mama Mia singing ‘Money Money Money’ on board a luxurious yacht? And Goldie Hawn in the oldie but goodie, Overboard? Is it the luxury surroundings, and the crew who see to your every whim, or is that a boat is synonymous with a carefree lifestyle?
I know some of the holidays that I remember as the most fun and most relaxing, were spent on boats in the tropical Whitsunday Islands where some of my books are set. Unfortunately our holiday boats were a lot smaller than the luxury cruising yacht, the Midas in Dangerous Desire.
I researched luxury motor cruisers for this book by wandering around marinas...sometimes a writer’s research can be a chore...as well as looking at photographs of fancy yachts on the internet. When I came across a yacht called the Mystique that summarised it all for me. What a great name for a boat...the mystique of a luxurious holiday on the water.
But for Gracie the experience is not what she expected... thrills and surprises color her experience. Come on over to the next stop, Writing Inside and Out, on this tour to read about what makes one of her more terrifying experiences. Would you enjoy a holiday on a luxury cruiser?
Come along and be pampered in an Annie Seaton read and enjoy that luxury without getting sea sick!

Turning her head slowly, Gracie strained to see her surroundings in the dim light and her gaze fixed on the shadowy shapes of equipment above her. Three cameras and a variety of telescopic lens sat on the shelf near the hatch.
“Oh my God, you’re sitting in here in the dark taking photos of those people? What are you a pervert…or paparazzi or something?” Before he could answer, a glimmer of hope filled her chest and she turned to him. “How long have you been here? Taking photos, I mean.”
He looked at her strangely and an idea flashed into her mind. Before she could think about the consequences, she seized the opportunity. She slid slowly back over the seat toward him, curled her fingers and reached up to his face, lightly brushing the rough stubble on his cheek with the back of her hand. His jaw was set rock hard and he didn’t move. She leaned in closer to him and dropped her voice to a whisper.
“So…you’ve got some photos of the…er…action on the Midas? Maybe we could look at them together?” She opened her mouth a little and ran the tip of her tongue across her top lip. “We might be able to make our own fun here?”
“Why?” he asked. “You think looking at the photos will turn me on?” A look of boredom crossed his face in the dim light. “Sweetheart, I’ve seen it all, but it you want to play, I’m happy to oblige.”
Gracie’s heart lodged in her throat when he lifted his hand and placed it at the side of her neck and she held her breath, waiting for his fingers to circle her throat. He curled his fingers and imitated the way she had caressed his cheek. His touch was warm and he trailed them down her neck and continued until they rested on the swell of her breast above the low cut neckline. “I’ll show you the photos…and then…”
She drew in a quick breath as his eyes narrowed and he slowly lowered his mouth toward hers. Time seemed to stand still as she tipped her head back on the seat and his lips came closer—inch by inch until his warm breath fanned her lips. His hand slid down to her bare thigh and the hair lifted on the back of her neck and her arms. The heat of his touch penetrated her skin and her heart raced with a dizzying mix of fear and excitement.
It was like a game of cat and mouse as though each was teasing the other to see how far the other would go before they pulled back. Slowly his lips touched hers and she opened her mouth as heat flooded her. His fingers crept up her thigh and ripples of pleasure shot through her. Gracie was the first to break—she reached down and grabbed his hand to still it on its journey up her thigh. For a couple more seconds the hardness of his mouth claimed hers until he pulled back and spoke coldly.
“You like to play dangerous games, but this is not a game. Now I want the truth.”

Genre: Contemporary Paranormal Romance

Blurb:
Darci’s psychic abilities have always guided her through hardship…and into a once-in-a-lifetime love with her rich, powerful husband, Adam Montgomery. When Adam vanishes in a mysterious accident, a grief-stricken Darci is left alone to raise their young daughter. But her instinct tells her the reports of Adam’s death are untrue. When the FBI enlists her intuitive talents to solve a heinous crime, she agrees — if they’ll help to uncover the truth about Adam. It may be a tougher deal than Darci imagined: she must go head-to-head with Jack Rose, a criminal whose mind power matches Darci’s at every turn. Now Darci must discover if those in the highest circles of authority have her best interests at heart — or if someone intends to sever the everlasting bond she shares with her one true love.

Excerpt:
He was lying. I didn’t know how much or about what, but I was sure he was lying.
Also, he was acting. More than that, he was playing the character he portrayed on TV, the shy, likable, brilliant detective, Paul Travis. The gorgeous-but-doesn’t-know-it Paul Travis. He was dipping his head down and glancing up at me as though he expected me to swoon over the sheer beauty of him, but I wasn’t even close. When you’re married to a man like Adam Montgomery, other men don’t compare.
I sat down across from him and began concentrating to try to force him to stop acting and tell me the truth.
This wasn’t what I wanted to be doing but my mother had sent me a letter. It was the first letter I’d ever received from her so of course it had an impact on me. It said, “You owe me.” Stuck in the letter was a photo of the actor, Lincoln Aimes.
The letter puzzled me for days. Of course I knew what she meant: You owe me for saving your life, so pay me back. But what did she want me to do with the beautiful black actor?
Was my mother asking me to do what I could to get the man to be her next lover? That didn’t make sense because my mother certainly didn’t need anyone’s help in getting a man, even a man much younger than she was.
After I received the letter and photo, I got on the Internet and ordered the DVDs of the first four seasons of Lincoln Aimes’s TV show, Missing. The character Paul Travis didn’t appear until the sixth show of the first season and then only in a small role, but he was such a hit that they asked him to become a leading character. At least that’s what the brochure that came with the DVDs said. When I searched the Internet I read that the actor had had problems finding roles that cast him as anything other than a body and a face.
Poor guy, I thought. We should all have such problems.
It seemed that Lincoln Aimes wanted to play meaty parts. You know, something like a society outcast, the guy who was given bad parents and poverty, but manages to rise above that and become the first American president with no scandal attached to him.
Instead, casting agents took one look at Lincoln Aimes’s perfect face, his perfect body, and cast him…well, as a sort of dumb blond. With honey-colored skin.
I read that Lincoln Aimes took a few roles, none of which he liked, then was out of work for a couple of years. I guess he got hungry because he finally accepted a small part on the hit detective series Missing, which each week looked for a missing person. After just one appearance, he became one of the three main characters.
What made the role work was that, in a way, it made fun of Lincoln Aimes’s exceptional beauty. When the cast was working on a case, the character of Paul Travis was all business. He unraveled clues, was great at sizing people up, and had a real knack for putting himself into the mind of a missing person.
What he didn’t know was that behind his back, everyone was talking about how gorgeous he was. It was a running joke throughout the show. The other characters constantly used him for such things as getting the angry woman in records to put their requests on the top of the pile. Paul Travis, or just Travis, as everyone called him, would hand the woman the request, speak to her in a businesslike way, then walk away. The camera would show her sighing and saying, “Yes, Travis,” then immediately feeding the info into the computer. The next second she’d take the head off some ugly guy who complained that he’d been waiting for the same information for three days.
The whole premise was hokey and bordered on the ridiculous, but it enlivened a show that was like too many others already on TV. It was fun to see witnesses do double takes when they saw Travis. And it was fun to tune in each week to see what the writers came up with to show off Lincoln Aimes’s beauty.
Yes, it was a good show, and I, like most of America, watched it regularly. Of course no one believed a person could be so good-looking and not know it, but it was a nice thought. It made the viewer smile when Travis said in wonder, “That man offered me a job as a male stripper. Weird, huh?” We viewers chuckled with the characters in the show. And each week we tuned in to see if maybe they were going to tell us something about Travis’s personal life — but they never did. We saw other characters’ wives, husbands, apartments, kids. But never anything at all about Travis’s personal life. If it didn’t happen to him at work, it was never shown.
So now the actor who played Paul Travis was sitting in my living room, looking at me shyly, as though he thought I’d believe he was who he played. But he was lying to me.

Dialogue Highlight:
I stared at him hard and concentrated, and was soon rewarded with seeing him raise his head and look at me straight-on, with no head-ducking.
Your mother said you could help me find my son.” He had to take a deep breath to get the words to come out, and I could feel that he was very nervous. About what? I wondered.
As for the child, I wondered about that. From what I knew of the actor, he wasn’t married, never had been, and had no kids.
Of course he had a girlfriend: Alanna Talbert, the darling of the screen, “the woman most men wanted to have an affair with,” as some poll said. She was tall, thin, had cheekbones that could cut glass, and was as perfect physically as Lincoln Aimes was. She, too, was African-American.
I didn’t know you had a son,” I said as I stalled for time. I wanted to know how much my mother had told him about me.
Neither did I,” he said, then gave me another look in the character of Paul Travis.
You want to cut that out and tell me what it is you want?” I snapped at him.
He blinked at me a few times and I could feel his consternation. Obviously, he wasn’t used to being spoken to like that by a heterosexual woman. The truth was, I have certain, well, abilities that make me able to see…I hate to say that I can see “inside” a person, but I guess that’s what happens. I can’t read minds but I do have very, very strong intuition. And right now my intuition said that this man thought he could talk me into doing anything he wanted.
Maybe if I gave him an itty-bitty bit of a headache he’d stop posing, I thought. Maybe he’d tell me what he wanted, I could say no, then he’d go away. I wanted to get back to doing what I did every day, which was lie on the couch in my bedroom and concentrate on my missing husband.
I — ” he began, then stopped as he got up to walk around the living room. It was a pretty room, done in peaches, yellows, and blues. Until a year ago, it was the happiest room on earth.
He looked back at me and I could feel that he’d released some of the hostility I’d sensed when I first met him, but I could still tell he thought I was someone not quite trustworthy. I couldn’t very well hold that against him, could I? Not after what that…that man had written about me. The whole world called me the Hillbilly Honey. I was the laughingstock of America. Until my husband and his sister disappeared, that is. Then I became the most hated person in America. People believed I’d murdered my husband to collect his inherited money. I told everyone, the police, the reporters, all of them, that I knew in my heart that my husband and sister-in-law were still alive, but no one listened to me.
So now here I was, alone, hiding from the world, and this man was asking me to help him find his son.
And I knew that he was either lying or hiding something big.

Review:
Hmmm … I find myself completely and utterly annoyed with this book. So annoyed, in fact, that I find I have a deep seeded need to read the 3rd book in the series just to assure myself that Ms. Deveraux has not lost her dang mind. I mean how in the name of all that is holy do you break up your main characters in such a dreadful way and then try to place a different guy in Adam's place? Well not really in his place, but damn … kind of in his place. I feel betrayed. My emotions are on a roller coaster and I am now cursing the day I decided to read this trilogy.

For those of us who know Darci from the first book, we pretty much loved her because she was too sweet and innocent not to. She and Adam had a tough road to happiness both before then knew each other and after. Their happiness was well deserved if I might say so myself. And now, a few years later, Adam and his sister are kidnapped and Darci's life has become the kind one hides from. People label her some awful things claiming she tricked Adam into marrying her and then she murdered him because all she really wanted was the money. Even the girls (her daughter and sister/niece) are sent away to family so that they can be sheltered from the horrific things people say to Darci. Now her life is consumed with trying to find Adam and his sister and sending her father to follow up on the leads. Their happily ever after is currently in shambles.

Lincoln Aimes is about as gorgeous as the come and has used said talents in the acting profession. Used to putting up a facade for a living, Darci fnds him tough to break through to. But break through she must because Linc's son is missing, he has similar abilities as Darci, and he is likely a key component to discovering Adam's whereabouts. Linc is not sure what to think about Darci. He knows who she is rumored to be and he isn't ready to buy into her special gifts. But he is desperate to find his son and he knows somehow that Darci is his only chance to succeed. The problem will be in shedding the actor's role, dealing with some crazy things he swore he'd never believe in (like ghosts), and trusting Darci ~ but more than that, proving to Darci that she can trust him in return.

This story seemed like a bit of a farce. There was definite attraction between Linc and Darci, but knowing her deep love for Adam, the whole thing seemed wrong. Even when Linc propositions Darci, despite the lighthearted tone, I just couldn't get on board with it. Luckily, the entire story did not focus on the connection between Darci and Linc. Overall the story wasn't all that bad. Given the darkness introduced in the first book, I expected worse this time around but such was not the case. The first book lacked the smoldering intimate scenes, whereas the second included a scene with a random character that just didn't make a whole lot of sense. I mean, it made sense, but I just didn't really care about the interaction. The main parts of this story involve past wrongs done to souls long gone, but still tied to the earth. Rights must be wronged, relationships and familial ties must be understood, and the key player (linc's son) has to be found. But even beyond all of the revelations that will be unfolded lies an even deeper secret which involves Darci's power. She will be tested and unless she proves herself worthy, all could be lost despite the good she has done. In the end, even well intentioned people can stumble. With Darci's axis on tilt over the past several months, she is extremely vulnerable to weakness.

And after all of that, I probably haven't explained much to you. Let's say that some things in the story worked while others did not. That said, those who had read the first book prior would likely be more affected by the components that seemed off than someone just coming to the series. Darci remains true to her character in the face of much heartache and temptation, but I missed the fun-loving, care-free Darci of FOREVER. Her character has definitely evolved quite a lot from the last time we saw her. I only hope that she comes back to us in the final book. Linc added a bit of much needed charm to the seriousness of the story and brought a breath of roguish fun with him. Also interesting is the switch between chapters allowing Darci to share her feelings and then Linc to do the same. These shared thoughts provide a better sense of each character and their emotions throughout their journey together. Despite my complaints, I still enjoyed the book. I cannot say what role this book plays within the trilogy until I finish book three, but I am hopeful that it contains essential information that will better aid the reader in assimilating the final book.
