Blurb:

One accident.
One jerk.
I thought I could work with him.
I was wrong.

The first time Cash Boyd locks eyes with Erin Stone, sparks fly, and not only the clutch-at-your-sheets kind. There is something about Erin that makes him want to push her away while at the same time drives him wild for her. He's a man of many things, but being helpless at the hands of a woman isn't one of them. Finding himself at her mercy, he intends to make her job as hard as possible for her.

Burning with desire for the one man who's the shadow to her light, Erin gives in to Cash's advances...even though she could be destroyed by the truth she's afraid to disclose. Little does she know that there is also more than meets the eye to Cash and she might just get more than she bargained for.

Cash might be the best at taming bulls, but taming her heart could prove to be the greatest challenge of his life.

Favorite Line:

“Outside,” Dad bellows. “And wipe that lipstick off your mouth , son. The shade doesn’t suit you.”  ~ Trent Boyd

Dialogue Highlight:

I lift her chin and place a soft kiss on Erin’s lips, also realizing that she’s not the kind of woman I’ll ever let go.
“Feel my pulse,” I whisper into her ear and press her palm against my chest.
“Why?”
“Because it tells you the truth.”
“What does it say?” she whispers.
My lips curve into a smile. “I’m wild for you.”

“I still don’t know your name. I’m not sure I feel comfortable with a stranger living in my house,”I say, eager to change the subject.
“I tried to introduce myself and you brushed me off, Mr. Boyd.”She pushes her hair back.
I smirk.
Little Miss Prissy thinks she can talk back.
Fat chance.
When I ask a question, I demand an answer;
I always get an answer. It’s as simple as that.
“Okay.”I shrug. “Then let’s call you ‘sunshine.’”
“I’m not your sunshine.”
“Thunder, perhaps?”
“Absolutely not.”Her eyes narrow and a glint of anger flashes in them. “It’s Erin.”
“You don’t look like an Erin.”
“No? What do I look like?”
She has a short fuse. I can’t help but wonder whether she’s as fiery in bed as she is outside of it.
The thought sends a rush of blood to my dick. My jeans tighten visibly. But even if I wanted to hide the bulge, the cast around my leg makes it impossible to shift position.
“Birdy.”I press my mouth into a tight line to suppress a grin.
“Don’t call me that.”Her voice is sharp, on edge. Flashes of anger flicker in her eyes. She looks as though she’s about to snap my head off, which turns me on even more.
“Why not? Don’t you like the word, the implication of it, or is it reserved for someone else?”
“I—”Her gaze darts around the kitchen as she struggles for words. Her expression is cagey, but her emotions are written all over her face. “Because it used to be my nickname.”
“Birdy?”
“Yeah, I don’t want you to call me that. Ever. It’s Erin. Please.”
Her blue eyes fill with moisture. She turns her head away, but not in time to hide the pain that pours from her.
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to start our first session. I’ll prepare the guestroom,”she mumbles.
“I like the sound of that. You’ll find fresh linens in the cupboard in the hall.”
“You may call that flirting; I call it sexual harassment. Now, drink up your coffee. We’re beginning in ten.”
“Ten what?”
“Minutes, Mr. Boyd.”She exhales a long, exasperated breath that makes her chest heave. I smile, unable to help myself.
“What if I’m not ready by then?”
“Then we’ll be having a problem,”Erin says. “Your father—”
“—is paying you. Got it the first couple of times you mentioned it. He’s paying you to put up with my shit.”
“Good. Now that that’s sorted out, let’s begin.”She’s not even trying to pretend otherwise. Turning sharply on her heels, she heads for the door, calling over her shoulder, “We’ll do it in the living room, then.”
“You realize the words ‘We’ll do it’are sending mixed messages, right? You may think I’m flirting, but I call it working with what you’re giving me. I would be careful how you talk to your patients. Or else—
”She spins back to me, her eyes two fiery pits. “Or else?”
I open my mouth to proclaim that I don’t mind the living room because I have a very comfortable sofa that’s suitable for any position she might desire. But something stops me. Clearly, she’s not the flirty kind. Or she’s not over the breakup of her last relationship. Whatever it is, there’s something about her that suddenly kills my mood to further wind her up.
“Or nothing.”I push the remnants of my sandwich into my mouth and chew slowly, wondering why the fuck I even care about her feelings.

Review:

Cash Boyd is an arrogant ass. He’s selfish, rich, a womanizer, happens to be damn good at riding bulls, and refuses to lay by the rules. He won’t ask for help under any circumstances – especially not after his latest bull riding injury that requires therapy following several extensive surgeries. He’s sent every therapist packing from his home – even locked his family out of his house quite literally for meddling – so this heart-stopping beauty of a therapist won’t be any different. His family sent her, he doesn’t need her, so she has to go. He will get back to walking on his own – in his own time, on his own terms, with no help from anyone. Definitely not from Erin, who has had his right hand working over-time since she arrived in his house.

Erin Stone had a stellar reputation as a physical therapist. She loves her work and lives to be able to help others through her services. She knew Cash would be a hand full when she took the job and she’s worked with some tough nuts to crack, but this guy tests all of her limits and boundaries. Their magnetic attraction isn’t helping the situation. All she can focus on is his beautiful body – and that is when he isn’t sending her temper into meltdown mode with his refusal to get with the program. Never mind that she has been tempted since she first laid eyes on him, now she’s actually considering more. It’s a way to get him to co-operate with therapy: at least that is what tells herself. Never mind that the arrogant jackass tempts her beyond reason and that his desire for her could be part of the reason behind some of the jackassery. But only some.

Full disclosure – I couldn’t use my very favorite lines or dialogue highlights in the review, because it would have spoiled parts of the story. It sucks, but neither do I enjoy running stories for other readers. I very much enjoyed my time spent with Cash and Erin. The chemistry between the two was palpable. I enjoyed seeing each try to deny the attraction, explain it away, then try to get on with their days without confronting it. Good plan … NOT! And the sex … Good Grief! Hot and Steamy to be certain! I think part of the charm was when they both would come to realize that they cared on a larger level, but would rationalize it, without admitting that it could be more. That happened several times and each time they cared just a bit more, you know, even though they didn’t. 😊  The Boyd family and extended family is also fun to get to know and added an extra layer of depth to the story without taking anything away from the main characters. Erin stuck it out a bit longer than many would have, but with her passion to help others and her growing love for Cash, it is perfectly understandable why she would put up with more. After all, haven’t all at some point in our lives? Cash was a little more difficult to love. He comes off as a playboy initially, but grows on you after you see more of who the person is and not so much the brand that he puts out there.

Curious though that this book isn’t part of a series and is described as a stand-alone. It is, of course, but there are a couple of other books about the other Boyd brothers. Probably my only issue with the book is that the characters were so flipping indecisive. They’d decide on a way to handle the other and when the next scene popped up, they wouldn’t at that way at all. I guess twitterpation muddled their brains a bit. This made it difficult to understand a couple of times. However, I am fully aware that I read an ARC and it is entirely possible a few things may have changed. The views were interesting as it flipped back and forth between Cash and Erin and I think that may have been where I got hung up a couple of times. But I liked that we could see things from both of their views instead of the regular inferences. I did have a vision of a sexual situation in which Erin took the lead to accommodate for Cash’s injuries, but that didn’t happen.

All in all, this was a very satisfying read, which has made me curious about the stories of the other Boyd brothers – A world I hope to explore. I recommend this book and am happy to say that you do not have to read it in any particular order. But for those of you who prefer to, start with Kellan (Beautiful Distraction), then Cash, and soon you will be able to read about Ryder (No One Like You, Feb 2018). Cash may also be mentioned in Counting On You, another stand alone, but the book does not involve a Boyd brother. For those of you who enjoy a satisfying HEA with hot sex and quite a lot of dirty talk, you’ve got a winner here.
