Spotlight with author Jenna Jaxon

Spotlight with author Jenna Jaxon

Hello Lovelies! I have had a lot going on lately and I am sure you have all noticed that the blog has been a bit slow with the posts lately. This is for a lot of reasons, but the biggest reason is that I am getting ready for my 3 year old and his next surgery on the 14th. My parents are heading over from California to help out DH with the kiddos because I will be gone for about a week with Gryff in the hospital. With everything else going on, this is one more thing and it is starting to stress me out. So the blog is going to be short of posts the rest of the month and possibly part of next month depending largely on Gryff’s recovery time. He is having surgery on his hard palate for those of you who are curious. But, I have a few things scheduled for all of you special friends who have been so supportive of me this past year. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of you. And with that, let’s move on to the post I have for all of you.
Today, thanks to the wonderful Sizzling PR, I have for you a spotlight of Ms. Jenna Jaxon’s ONLY SCANDAL WILL DO. I am in the process of reading the book, but with a few sick kiddos and getting ready for this surgery, I am currently only half way through the book. So that will be posted for you all as soon as I finish it. Until then, please enjoy this spotlight. It is my pleasure to introduce to you Ms. Jenna Jaxon.

**JENNA JAXON**

**BIO**
Jenna Jaxon is a multi-published author of historical  and contemporary romance who has been reading and writing historical romance since she was a teenager.  A romantic herself, Jenna has always loved a dark side to the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise.  She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her own writing.
Jenna lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets.  When not reading or writing, she indulges her passion for the theatre, working with local theatres as a director.  She often feels she is directing her characters on their own private stage.
She has equated her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can’t stop.

“Who are you, sir?” Katrina asked.

“Your master, slave.”

Harsh words cloaked in a voice of deep velvet. A shiver of dread raced down Katarina’s body, as much from the words as from his tone. “I am nobody’s slave,” she replied, trembling. “There has been a dreadful mistake.”

“I think not, my lovely. I paid a small fortune for your ownership this evening. Make no mistake.” He continued to stroke her hair and she twisted her head to the side. His mouth below the half mask twitched into an insolent smile. “I am pleased that you possess courage as well as beauty.” His fingers touched her cheek. “The mask hid the slave’s wealth well.”

She jerked away. “You may have paid for a slave, sir, but what you find in this room is a lady in distress. Will you prove a gentleman or a rogue?”

“A lady in distress?” He laughed and straightened. “How did a lady come to find herself on display at an auction, scandalously clad in a transparent Greek costume, in Madame Vestry’s House of Pleasure?”

“House of Pleasure?” she squeaked.

“Where else would such a thing occur?” The man’s amusement deepened.“And there will certainly be pleasure here tonight, slave.”

He ran a hand slowly down her arm, fingers trailing silkily against her bare flesh. Mouth agape at such a liberty, she slapped the hand away and ran for the door. With a long arm, he snared the diaphanous folds of her gown. The material strained against her body. Kat froze lest it rip, exposing her completely. Cursing her own folly for choosing such a costume, she swung around to face her captor.

“Please release me, sir,” she demanded, trying to keep her temper in check. She needed to woo this man to her cause. And though it galled her, she could only do so with soft words, not blows. Perhaps the blows could come later. “I beg you to aid me in my hour of need.” She put every ounce of charm into her smile; she could cajole him, as long as he couldn’t read her mind.

“Ah, but I have needs too, slave.” His hands were in her hair again, as though he could not help himself.

Well aware from his husky tone what needs the man likely had, Kat winced. If only she could see all of his face. It was so difficult to judge the man under that golden mask. She forced herself to relax, though the thought of his hands on her raised gooseflesh everywhere. It was only her hair, after all. No great sin. Perhaps if she softened her demeanor, she could convince him of her plight. She could offer honeyed tones for a little while.

“Will you hear my story of how a lady ended up in this House of Pleasure, sir?” Even to her own ears, her innocent tone sounded false. How would it sound to--

Releasing her hair, the stranger grabbed her hand. “We both know how you will end up, my slave. Come.” He pulled her toward the four-poster and she dug her toes into the rough, worn carpeting. Honey be damned! She had no intention of going anywhere near that bed.

So what do you all think? Let’s talk! I am going to have several days in the hospital with my son. SO I am looking forward to the conversation. Does this sound like a book you would be interested in? Why or why not? Have you read this author before? Have you read this book before? Tell me what you can! I love comments!
Talk to you all soon and until next time …
HAPPY READING!!!

I need to clear some time in my schedule to read this one. I have read several of Jenna's books and LOVED them. I have no doubt that this will be just as good.

  3. Wishing you and your son well with his surgery and recovery.

I've read this and I really loved this book. I think one aspect I loved so much, and it especially hits home with this excerpt, is once things come to light, this hero has quite a good bit of redeeming to do.

  5. Thank you, Jerri, but it's actually my host's son. My prayers go out to him as well! And thanks for hosting me today at Reader's Edyn, especially with so much turmoil going on.

I have a question, regarding Melissa L's comment that she enjoyed the fact that my hero had a lot of redeeming of himself to do. Is this a plot point that people generally enjoy in historicals (or any romance)? Does the hero who makes a mistake need to travel a very long road to redemption or should the heroine be more forgiving and move on to the next crisis?

    1. Hello Ms. Jaxon ~
I really appreciate all of the kind thoughts of everyone today. It helps to know that people you don't even know are pulling for you, you know? And you are more than welcome. The blog and reading helps keep my mind busy and less focused on the "turmoil".

Regarding redemption I think that it is probably one of the more critical points in romance. The beauty is that the redemption can be from sublte to glaringly obvious and can come from either of the MCs. All great stories have a pivitol point in which the "truth" comes out. And frequently the male MC has to do the groveling, which I enjoy a bit more than the other way around. Usually he has done something not quite right and ends up having to apologize (without apologizing mind you) to make things right and give hope for the future. I amnot sure that I explained that as well as I could have.

An example ~ one of my favorite books is Johanna Lindsey's ANGEL. Angel and Cassie pose as engaged and end up getting married somewhat unintentionally. Of course both act as if this is the worst thing ever but cave to the passion that rages between them. Cassie ends up falling hard and Angel ends up disappearing frequently only to reappear ever so often in his ruse to try and impregnate his wife, thinking that this is the only way he can stay with her without admitting how much she has come to mean to him. Cassie ends us calling his bluff with a rifle aimed at him before he finally admits all. It is great. but it is a fabulous example of how both wrong the other in some way, attempt to right the wrong without telling the other about it, all while refusing to admit their love for one another. Hopefully that makes better sense. :)

Also, long road redemptions make the reward at the end that much sweeter. The heroine who forgives to easily ends up seeimng like she has no backbone and that can be character suicide. Most especially with the alpha males who need the strong-willed female to "conquor" them.

I actually had the awesome privilege of beta reading this book month ago. And i knew as I was reading it that Only A Scandal Will Do was going to be a hit. I feel in love with the plot, the characters, and Jenna Jaxon's writing.

What I really enjoyed about OSWD is the heroine and her tough attitude.
I've read all of Jenna Jaxon's books and loved them all.

And what fun to be able to beta read! Kind of like an inside track, right? I can honestly say that even with this rough couple of weeks, everyone has effectively motivated me to finish reading. I usually knock books out in a day ~ 2 at the most, but there was too much going on this time. I seriously can't wait to get home and get back to it now. Thanks for that. :)

    1. Hello Ms. Quinn ~
I am so happy that you enjoyed the scene. Funny thing ... I always love to adde xcerpts when I spotlight a book. Part because it adds to the post, but mostly because it adds something for the reader and gives a hint of what is in store for them when they read the whole book. This time, I couldn't find an excerpt with the media kit. I could have misplaced it. I am not sure, but I went in search of an excerpt last night before I posted on a whim, thinking it would be a great addition to the post. Looks like I made a good decision because everyone seems to have really enjoyed it. Yay! Thanks so much for stopping by and spending some time with us today. :)

  17. Good luck, dear blogger, with your son. Having sick children is a tribulation.

    1. Hi Patricia ~
Thanks for that. I really appreciate it. One being sick sure made things interesting for a while. But Gryff is going through what will be several surgeries until he is about 21 years of age. At 3, he has a long road ahead of him. But he has been a trooper since day one and I feel blessed to be able to be his mom.

And I can totally relate. I wish I had time to read everything in my TBR list that gets added to nearly daily, plus re-read everything I love, plus seek out new authors that I have yet to discover. Wouldn't that be fabulous? I always wish I had the power to freeze time when I read. That would be amazing! Thanks so much for topping by and spending some time with us today. :)

  18. Good luck with your son's surgery. I hope he comes through it quickly & easily.

I already have this book on my must read list. I have loved every excerpt of it I have read and have read many books by Ms. Jaxon. I am trying to get through a few of my books in my TBR piles (physical & electronic) but for some reason they both keep growing, lol. I need to stay off line so that I don't find more books to have to have. (Not gonna happen)

    1. Hi June ~
Thanks very much for your kind thoughts. The hard palate is a bit more difficult but we will see how it goes. The big thing is to keep him from jamming things into his mouth and re-opening it. Difficult feat when dealing with a three year old.

And I can totally relate. Those dang TBR lists just don't know how to shrink, but they are very good at expanding. :) I have often contemplated going dark until I make it through that list ... but that is far as I got. LOL Thanks so much for stopping by!
