Reader’s Edyn

I always felt like I could do something more than just read. Finally, I have found both a creative outlet and a chance to do something meaningful with my reading. This blog was created in appreciation of and tribute to all of the authors who have brought me joy through their books. These reviews are my way of giving back to authors and providing recognition for the hard work that each one completes every day!

Interview and GIVEAWAY with author Misa Buckley

Interview and GIVEAWAY with author Misa Buckley

Hey everyone! I do believe I am finally drawing to a close the tours I missed while my son was recovering from surgery. Yay! I love feeling like I have accomplished something. I want to thank all of the wonderful authors and tour agents who were so understanding and still allowed me to post these stops even though they were past the tour dates. Your support and understanding means more to me than you know!
I was able to participate in a promo for one of Ms. Buckley’s books a while ago because it sounded interesting. Well, I have found another that also sounded interesting. But rather than just spotlight the book like I did last time, I decided to interview Ms. Buckley. This tour was supposed to have a giveaway as well. I have decided to proceed with the giveaway and gift the book myself. Be sure to scroll to the end of the post for your chance to enter. As always there will only be one required entry. The rest of the entries are optional. Thanks for joining us today. I hope you have a good time.
Please allow me to introduce to you:

**MISA  BUCKLEY**

**BIO**
Misa Buckley grew up watching Doctor Who and Star Trek and reading fantasies from Anne McCaffrey and David Eddings. So when she started writing NaNoWriMo in 2007, it was sci fi that she wrote. She found writing a much-needed haven from the crazy of raising five children and a Land Rover-obsessed husband.

It took her a few years to take the step from writing to submitting, but her first published novella, IRONHAVEN, was published in July 2011 by Decadent Publishing. Now contracted with Champagne Books as well as self-publishing, she can be found on Twitter or at her website
.

**INTERVIEW**
How has your life changed since becoming published?
Not all that much – ELEANOR’S HEART is my second release through a small press, my third overall, so my time was already balanced between writing and promoting.
Funny that many authors have that answer. Shows how much “real life come into play before most authors can even think about writing. What is your typical day like?
With a houseful of kids and a 13 month puppy, there’s no such thing as a “typical” day! Most days are dealing with chores and trying to squeeze in an hour of quiet writing time.
I can relate, believe me. I read that you have 5 kids. I have 6. I totally get it. *nods* Tell us a little about your current release.
The official blurb: Dying of a rare blood disease, Eleanor Franklin needs laudanum to ease the pain, often driven to steal in order to buy more. But when she steals a ruby she has no idea that the gem will tip her into the midst of a deadly species war.
Saved by Jefferson Park, she discovers a man with an even darker past than her own: he is one of the last true Vampires fighting to stop the eradication of his kind.
But the Sanguine aren’t the only problem as Eleanor finds herself falling in love with Jefferson. It is a relationship she cannot commit to, as she knows her time is limited, and she will not risk breaking his heart.
This blurb got me when I first read about the tour. It is outside of my normal read, but till super intriguing to me. Any upcoming projects you would like to tell us about?
I have two more novellas released through Champagne Books next year (March and May), while in the meantime I’m trying to clear my To Be Written pile. This is hampered by the plots breeding like bunnies.
Ha! I have a TBR pile. It too seems to never get any smaller. LOL How do you keep in contact with your readers?
Readers can catch me on Twitter where I spent far too much time, or read about past and present projects on my website.
I have included several links above for the readers. What is your favorite thing about this book?
Coming up with the mythology. I wanted to put my own stamp on the vampire myth. I think I’ve managed that.
I love reading how one author differs from another when creating their own world; especially differences between things such as the life of a vampire. Gets very interesting. When did you begin your journey as an author and what pulled you in the direction of writing?
I started in 1999, writing fan fiction. Back then I’d no thought about being published – it was just something to do in spare moments during raising a family. In 2007 I tried NaNoWriMo, writing an original story. Even though I failed to reach 50,000 words, the joy of creating my own worlds stuck with me and I began to write for publication.
NaNo rocks. And I never knew how popular it was until I researched it myself last year. How do you celebrate when you finish a novel?
I don’t really. The celebrations come when I get a contract.
Yep. That would definitely be something to celebrate about! Any advice you’d like to share for aspiring writers?
Right now, it’d be to ignore the popular trends and write something new. Something they’d want to read. I think the biggest challenge for new authors is to not compare themselves to others, but it’s not about what everyone else is achieving – it’s about what you can achieve.
Great advice! What is one thing you know now that you wish you had known when you first started writing?
That it’s just as hard once you’re a published writer as it is when you’re unpublished. Getting that first contract isn’t a magic moment that makes everything easier… and that’s the same for everyone.
Also a great piece of advice. I think a lot of people think that once you get published life is full or roses, but it is a lot of hard work from start to finish whether published or not. If you could travel back in time, where would you go and who would you meet?
I’d go back to L.A. in 2009, this time without the jetlag, and be well enough to meet Cliff Simon! (Yes, I have a crush. Shut up.)
*snort* No judgement here. We all have a crush on someone. *wink* Do you have any other hobbies or interests besides writing?
I work at Champagne Books at a cover artist – I love making graphics and covers. I also enjoy knitting and am currently making doll clothes for my little girl. And I’m a member of a local Steampunk group that meets monthly (and gives me an excuse to wear dresses and corsets)
I have a corset and I lurve it! What an awesome time that must be. You are obviously a very creative individual with such hobbies. Well done! What is your favorite drink?
Banana milkshake.
Yum! Favorite meal?
One I’ve not cooked!
ROFLMAO! Opposites: one thing that never fails to make you happy and one thing that never fails to make you see red.
Hearing my kids laugh. Hearing them arguing.
TRUTH! Do you have a favorite inspirational quote?
“Never give up on your dreams.” ~ Cliff Simon
Great quote! Long hair or short hair on a guy?
I prefer longish. Enough to run my fingers through.
Who is your favorite fictional character ever?
Fictional includes TV, right? Because then it’s Bialar Crais. I loved how ambiguous he was, not to mention his awesome, redemptive arc. That he was easy on the eyes might have helped a little… :D
Easy on the eyes always helps. *grins* Favorite midnight snack?
Cream cheese on a bagel.
That is a good one as long as it is toasted. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
It really depends on the situation. I’m naturally shy, but when I’m with friends… Yeah, pretty much a little of both.
Are you a night person or morning person?
Night, definitely.
Urban Fantasy or Paranormal Romance?
Both! And mixed together!

How fun was that? I want to thank Ms. Buckley for taking the time to answer my questions and allowing me to interview her. I also want to share more with you all about her book, ELEANOR’S HEART. And don’t forget that I am giving away a copy of the book to one lucky commenter! Don’t you just love winning a book? Exactly! So be sure to enter!

**EXCERPT**
But I couldn’t run far, not when every slip on the ice beneath my feet made the pain in my back and ribs flare more. I darted into another alley, realizing too late that there might be yet more creatures hiding in the shadows. I struggled on, every breath an agony now. I wanted laudanum. Dear God, I needed laudanum. The pain would only get worse, otherwise. Whereas sometimes I prayed for death, now it was chasing my heels, I found that I didn’t want to die. Not now, and certainly not as I imagined that thing would dispense death. I pulled on my dwindling strength and rounded another corner.
Ahead of me, a man stood in the center of the alley. I skidded to a halt. He regarded me with a steady gaze, unperturbed by my sudden appearance. In fact, I thought that he seemed ready for it, even though he was dressed for a night at the opera. His dress suit was dark and immaculate, expensively styled, while his polished shoes reflected the scant light.
He wasn’t a large man, and there was plenty of room to pass by him, yet despite that I knew instinctively he represented a greater danger than the thing chasing me. A passing breeze confirmed this notion; billowing his red-lined cloak to reveal how the long fingers of his right hand toyed with the silver grip of a pistol. His eyes shifted from my face to the soft scuttling behind me. The wry amusement that had marked his expression up to then fell away.
“You might care to move out of the way,” he told me, his tone light but with a slight undercurrent of tension. I decided to heed his warning and moved to the side of the alley. Cold leeched from the bricks through my thin blouse as I pressed against the wall. Ice sank straight into my marrow and caused the pain to multiply a hundred-fold. My eyes blurred with tears.
In that moment, a soft whump echoed off the alley walls. Static prickled over my skin, and the tang of ionized æther filled my mouth and nostrils. Something fell with a heavy, wet sort of sound. I dared to open my eyes and saw the creature dead on the ground, the dark stranger standing over it. As I stared at the scene, the creature’s form rippled and fell in on itself, turning into a puddle of black ichor.
Gagging at the stench of long-dead flesh, I turned and retched. My stomach twisted in knots and the acrid bile burnt my throat. Tears stung my eyes. A hand on my shoulder jolted me. My spine snapped as I straightened too quickly. My startled gaze met a pair of gray eyes, narrowed in contemplation.
His face was lean and clean-shaven, his pale skin stark in the darkness. His cheeks were hollow, bisected by sharp bones. Thin lips were pressed into a flat line. The slight breeze ruffled his already unruly hair, lending him a somewhat manic look. This was echoed by the pistol he still held. My jaw dropped at the tell-tale white-blue glow of the crystal chamber: I’d heard about æther weapons, but this was the first one I’d laid eyes on. What did it mean that this man had such a device?
