Reader’s Edyn

I always felt like I could do something more than just read. Finally, I have found both a creative outlet and a chance to do something meaningful with my reading. This blog was created in appreciation of and tribute to all of the authors who have brought me joy through their books. These reviews are my way of giving back to authors and providing recognition for the hard work that each one completes every day!

**EXCERPT**

Rae arrived at Flint’s apartment building and waved at the person at the front desk as she made her way to the elevator. Once the elevator arrived on Flint’s floor, she walked to his door and typed in the passcode. She heard the door unlock, and she slipped inside. Rae flicked the light switch on and took off her coat. After hanging it in the front hall closet, she toed her shoes off, grabbed her purse, and walked into the living room. She placed her bag on his couch and took her phone out before heading into the kitchen. She immediately went to the cabinet that held some wineglasses that Flint had purchased on her behalf to make her feel more comfortable in his apartment. Rae smiled as she grabbed the wineglass and poured her favorite wine that had become a permanent fixture in his home.

Since he was running circles in her mind, she sent him a quick message to check up on him but was surprised to find she already had a message from him.

Flint: How is everything going? Are you at the apartment?

Rae: Everything is fine. I’m drinking some wine in your apartment.

She strolled back into the living room, wineglass and phone in hand, and set them down on his coffee table. Rae fished the remote out from between the cushions on the couch and got comfortable.

Flint: Good. I don’t know how long this last event will last, so I’m not sure what time I’ll be there.

After Rae read his last message, she laid her head back on the couch, closed her eyes, and sighed. A smirk slowly formed on her face. She grabbed her phone, unbuttoned the first few buttons of her shirt, and snapped a photo on her phone.

Rae: Miss you.

With that, the photo and the message were off to Flint’s phone. She tossed her phone next to her on the couch, and it landed with the screen facing up.

Rae took another sip of her wine. She checked her phone again but didn’t see a response from Flint. The self-doubts came pouring in. They hadn’t taken pictures like that in a while, and it was stupid of her to send that photo. He’s running for office, for crying out loud. But at least my face wasn’t in it, and I turned the lights low.

She tipped the wineglass to her lips and let the liquid flow down her throat. What the hell was I thinking?

The more she thought about it, the more her flight or fight instinct kicked into gear. It wouldn’t take her long to get back to her apartment…

Her phone’s screen lit up. She stared the phone down, willing it to light up again without her having to touch it. Rae took a deep breath and checked her notifications.

Flint: I hope you aren’t tired tonight. I should be there in 30.
