Interview and Giveaway: Jodi Redford

Hey everyone! I have a crazy special treat for you all today. The fantabulous Jodi Redford is visiting the blog today. Now I know that the featured book is The Naughty List, which is a story that takes place around Christmas time. I scheduled this interview with Jodi toward the end of last year, but due to my schedule conflicts, I could not bring this awesome interview to you until now. And Miss Jodi is currently on vacation, but she has graciously agreed to pop in from time to time to visit us and comment on your comments. How cool is that? But … there was one great benefit to waiting to post this interview … Jodi has a few new releases coming up so now I will be able to tell you all about them! Weeeeee! More Jodi Redford books! What more could you ask for? Nothing? Well, I can think of something! Perhaps a giveaway … okay then! You asked for it! We will have details for that juicy little story at the end of the interview. So let’s get this party started! I give you the Awesome:

**JODI REDFORD**

**BIO**

At the ripe age of seven, I penned my first epic, complete with stick figure illustrations. Sadly, my drawing skills haven't improved much, but my love of creating fantasy worlds is still going strong.
Yep, I still love writing about fairies, ghosts, and other supernatural creatures, only my stories pack a little more heat these days.

I currently reside in Michigan with my husband and overgrown lapdog. I'm a member of Romance Writers of America and Greater Detroit Romance Writers of America.

When I'm not writing or working the day job, I'm usually tinkering in the garden (weather permitting) or drooling over those smokin' hot Winchester Brothers from Supernatural. Strictly for research purposes, of course.

**INTERVIEW**

Jodi, thank you so much for being here with us today!

Tell us a little about your upcoming release The Naughty List.

Perpetual good girl Lacey McGuire has two Christmas wish lists. One suitable for public consumption…and a private one that’s too hot to handle. Right at the top: wild, wicked fantasies about her best buddies and business partners Ryan Hollister and Bram Colton.

Besides the fact they’re both poster boys for Hunks ’R’ Us, they’ve been there for her through thick, thin and the heartbreak of a cheating fiancé. So what if her boys will never know they star in her sexiest daydreams? In her fantasy world, her heart will never get trampled again.

Ry and Bram are pretty sure Lacey never meant to email a list of some of her raunchiest wants. Particularly the one that tightens their shorts—she wants a threesome. With them. Although they’ve loved her for years, they made a pact to keep Lacey off limits in order to protect their friendship. Now all bets are off. And the quest to give her all she wants—and more—is on.

Sounds hot! Is it difficult to write ménage scenes?

Not really, surprisingly. As far as the technical aspects go, I always try to make sure it’s clear who is doing what, but I think the key to a well done ménage scene—or really any love scene, is to focus just as much on what’s going on in the character(s) head as what their body parts are up to. Sex that doesn’t involve emotions just isn’t as satisfying to me to write about. Or read.

That makes sense. What is your inspiration for writing this story with the added component of the three characters being best friends?

I LOVE friends to lovers stories, so that of course played a huge part in me deciding to write The Naughty List. I also was really intrigued by the dynamics of friends who own a business together, and how that would impact any potential relationship, as well as their struggle to deny their attraction for each other. Once that dilemma popped into my mind, Lacey, Ry and Bram became very real characters to me who were dying to have their story told.

It was a great dynamic that worked, in my opinion. How do you keep in contact with your readers?

As you know, I love chatting with readers on Twitter! They can follow me there and can also find me on Facebook, or send me an email. jodiredford@jodiredford.com

She really does love talking to her readers. *nods* You have a series That Old Black Magick that just recently released the third book in the series, Maximum Witch. What can you tell us about this series and are there any future plans for the fourth installment?

That Old Black Magick is my paranormal series that follows a group of witches in Savannah, Georgia, and their sexy shape-shifting heroes. Each book brings a new villain on the scene, and a whole bunch of trouble for the hero and heroine as they fight to defeat the bad guys and find their happy ever after. Getting Familiar With Your Demon, book 4, comes out the end of February. I’m so excited about this one for a variety of reasons. For one thing, readers will finally get to meet my book boyfriend, Sam. Also, this book also introduces a couple of characters who will be starring in a spin off series. Lots of exciting stuff in the works for the TOBM world.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to read GFWYD! Yay! Let’s shift gears for a second. You are credited with being highly knowledgeable in all things zombie. 1) What is the most important rule for everyone to know when the Zombie Apocalypse hits? 2) What are you doing to prepare for this imminent threat?

It is true that all zombies fear me. As they should. The number one important rule to know when the ZA hits is to hook up with people who are athletically challenged. Or at the very least, worse runners than you. Your neighbor’s a peg-legged sea captain? Excellent zombie bait right there, folks. Trust me on this. As far as what I’m doing to gear up for the ZA—I’m currently stockpiling unsalted butter, shovels, and George Foreman grills. If you have no idea what’s the importance of these items in the Zombie Apocalypse, clearly you need to be following me on Twitter. I’ll save your lives, people. Granted, if you really want to be snacked on by your dead uncle Bubba, that’s your choice. I judge not.

*snort* That is wicked valuable advice there folks. Mark it down quick before you forget!

When did you begin your journey as an author and what pulled you in the direction of writing?

I first started writing when I was an embryo. Seriously. My mother has the pencil scrawls on her uterus to prove it. Don’t ask how the pencil ended up in there. Some things are better left to the imagination. I’ve always been a storyteller (in case you couldn’t tell), so writing was a natural choice for me. Besides, something had to be done to get rid of the voices in my head. Wait, who said that? *looks around for culprit*

I can honestly say that writing as an embryo is a first for that answer, but obviously it worked out well for you. Applaud your mother for me. Any special quirks, superstitions, or habits when writing?

The only thing I absolutely have to do before starting a book is to put a musical soundtrack together. Each character gets at least one song that defines them, then I look for songs that fit the overall mood of the book and certain scenes. It’s probably the biggest thing that helps ground me in the book and make everything come alive in my head. *and drown out the voices*

Musical soundtracks are quite popular. I never realized how important they are to authors. How do you celebrate when you finish a novel?

I take a very long nap. I know that sounds incredibly boring compared to say cage wrestling velociraptors (my side hobby, coincidentally enough), but typically during the last couple of weeks when I’m working on a book I get a grand total of maybe three hours of sleep a night. So the second after I shoot that finished book to my editor, I pretty much fall lifeless to the floor like a rhino taken down with a tranq dart. Seriously, circus monkeys could jump on my head, French braid my hair and paint smiley faces on my toenails and I wouldn’t wake up. Which now that I think about it, might explain the weird occurrences when I’ve woken up with dread locks…

ROFLMAO! What’s next for Jodi Redford?

I have a ton of projects in the pipeline, including the spin off series for That Old Black Magic I referenced earlier. In addition to that, I’m working on the sequels for my Thieves of Aurion series and Light My Fire, my dragon series. I also have several new series in the developmental stage that I’m super excited about.

Jodi Redford series … ahhhh … let’s say that all together. Ready? Jodi Redford series … those words bring happiness to my heart. It gives me hope of the up an coming – what to look forward to – a meaning to life – a reason to live … well, you get the drift. Any advice you’d like to share for aspiring writers?

First and foremost, write what you love. You’re going to be spending a lot of time with these characters and their story. If your heart isn’t in it, it will show, and it could potentially turn you off from finishing the book or writing the next one. There are plenty of things you can’t control in this business, but writing what you love is the one constant that you have.

Tell us one thing that readers wouldn’t know about you.

I used to be a professional floral and landscape designer. I still love to get my hands dirty whenever I can. That might also explain why I have such a dirty mind. *bah dum dum*

*ca-ching* That was me accompanying your drum with a clang from the symbols. So … How many Pufferfish does it take to change a lightbulb?

What kind of trick question is that? Pffft. We all know that pufferfish are best friends with Lanternfish, hence the total lack of lightbulbs in the pufferfish realm.

Darn! I thought I stumped you! What is your favorite drink?

Painkiller (alcoholic)  Green Tea (non-alcholic)

What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas

Tell us one random piece of information that you could have lived your whole life without ever knowing?

Apparently there’s a big market for “werewolf dong” shaped sex toys. Aren’t you glad I shared that tidbit with you? Really, if you haven’t followed me on Twitter yet, what in the world are you waiting for?

So, a question...hmm, only one? Ok, which, if any of your characters from any of your books, would use a werewolf dong shaped sex toy and why?

Umm, I stalk Jodi on twitter and facebook, twitter name is @BeasBookNook, and I stalk Kendra on twitter too. :P Email addy is boring and obvious - beasbooknook@gmail.com

  2. @Bea - IKR? I was cracking up the whole time I was trying to create the post. And good question ... to which I could not fathom what the answer would be, but ... I am willing to bet Jodi has some awesomesauce answer to that! *nods*

  3. Lol! I love Jodi! Seriously! I'm sitting outside her window right now watching her. *innocent look*

Let's see, I follow Jodi on Twitter. @soulswallo. Kendra, I follow your blog through GFC and on Twitter. My email addy is Soulswallo[at]yahoo[dot]com.

My question: Jodi, which are your favorite type of shifters? And no saying Chiweenie shifters. I know you were thinking about it.

  4. @Kelly - You are killing me. I was already dying with Jodi's interview and now you make it worse. Chiweenie Shifters? LMAO! Of course you know it might have something to do with puffers. The poor misunderstood creatures. *grins*

  5. Yes, pufferfish don't get nearly enough love, the poor wee beasties.

I hate to confess my ignorance, but what are Chiweenie Shifters?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Exactly Bea! Exactly! My best guess is a chihuahua/dachshund mix. But what do I know?

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes, a Chihuahua/dachshund mix. Haven't you guys ever seen the pictures of my dogs? The little one that has cyborg eyes is a Chiweenie. Here, let me show you... https://twitter.com/#!/soulswallo/status/156925325228515328/photo/1

  8. Hey everyone! Thanks for reading my crazy interview, and big thanks and squeezy hugs to the awesome Kendra for letting me come on her blog.

Bea-I'm pretty sure ALL of my characters would use a werewolf-shaped sex dong, but if I had to narrow it down to one, I'd say Lilly from Cat Scratch Fever. I wouldn't doubt if she doesn't have a dozen of those bad boys on standby. *ahem* As for why, I hear she has a thing for werewolves. Hm, now that I think about it, this could give a whole new meaning to the "cat toys" referenced in the warning...

  9. Hey Kelly! *waves to you outside my window* Man, you must be freezing your ass off. My favorite shifter is a Chiweenie Chia pet zeebkey skunkapus. I thought you already knew that. A close second and third would be dragons and werewolves. A dragowolf would be awesome. I'm totally gonna write that now.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How could you guys not know what a Chiweenie shifter is!?! Have you not been hanging on my and Kelly's every tweet on Twitter?!? *sobs*

    ReplyDelete
  11. One of my word verifications was rinktopus!!! All hail the figure skating octopi!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kelly, I do hang on every word but sometimes I get behind and then I can't catch up. What can I say, I'm old and slow. :(

Jodi, I love the idea of a dragowolf. What a fiery romance that would be!

Kendra, who won? Did I miss the announcement?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh! Yeah! We did it on Twitter since it was the Smuthounds who entered. LOL

The winner was KELLY! Jodi picked for me because my son had been in the hospital. *whoops and hollas* CONGRATULATIONS KEL! What book did she end up picking? That is what I am not sure of. Although I did see a recent review Kel did of one of Jodi's books. Could very well have been that one ...
