Blurb:

Jennifer McClendon is in need of a vacation. What better place to get away from everything than a sun-drenched tropical island? And there’s no better way to get over her ex and have some fun than to spend a little time with a handsome software engineer who’s also on holiday. What could it hurt? They won’t see each other again anyway.

Simeon Baker wants more than a holiday romance with the gorgeous woman he meets on vacation, but a tragic accident that almost ends his life leaves him in hospital for months, and he isn’t able to follow up on his promise to keep in touch. But Fate steps in four years after their magical island holiday, and Simeon realizes Jennifer didn’t only leave the island with good memories. If he can convince Jennifer to give them a chance at something permanent, this might just be their first family Christmas.

Jennifer realized that they had been having their conversation in the hall. She opened the door wider. “I’m so rude, I didn’t ask you to come in.”
Simeon shook his head. “Oh no, I don’t need to come in. Are you ready to go?” Jennifer patted herself down and then looked up at him. “Am I dressed properly?” she asked, eyeing his khaki walking shorts, polo shirt and sandals. “Yes, I thought we’d have breakfast and then go through the activities to come up with a plan for today.”
“Great idea. Let me get my purse,” she said, leaving the door open and retrieving her canvas cross body bag. She pulled the straps over her head as she walked to the door.
“I’m ready,” she said, closing the door behind her.
Simeon extended his arm to her and she immediately grabbed hold of it. They took the elevator down to the buffet where they’d met the day before. Again, they each filled their plates with the selections of their choice, then found a table.
“I must say, the food here is delicious,” Simeon said.
“Do you eat out a lot?” she asked.
“Yes, I do because I’m never really at home much.”
Jennifer dug into her food. “I don’t cook much either, but I do know how. My mother taught me and my sisters how to cook.”
“So you could cook our meal tonight then?” he wanted to know.
“Yes, I could, but I don’t want to cook,” Jennifer said before she let out a chuckle.
“That’s good to know.” Simeon gave her a smile. He pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket. “I wrote down a couple of options for us for today. We can talk about what we’re going to do tomorrow later on tonight.”
Jennifer stared at him. “How do you know that I don’t have other plans for tonight?”
“Because we agreed yesterday to spend our vacation together, remember?” Wow, he’s really serious, Jennifer thought to herself.
For several seconds, they both were silent until Simeon cleared his throat. Dabbing at the corners of his mouth, he laid his linen napkin next to his plate. “Well, since you’re dressed so pretty today, I thought maybe we could go for a sail. You don’t have a problem getting your hair wet do you?”
“Oh, no and if I do, I know how to fix it.”

Review:

I could not finish this book. I didn’t even complete the 3rd chapter. I wanted to like it. I liked the description and the cover was sweet, but the writing just wasn’t for me. I’m not exactly sure what happened. I ended up reading like a telegram. Read a sentence. Stop. Read a sentence. Stop. I got so bored and I couldn’t get in to the book at all. To begin with, she walks in on her boyfriend having an affair and her reaction was so non-typical that it wasn’t even a little believable. I can tell you if that had happened to me, I would have gone Carrie Underwood on his ass! Jennifer just comes off as helpless initially. She wonders what she’s going to do about the plane tickets that were made on her credit card. Seriously? And before that she’s upset because she has to get her key back from him, but then later has an epiphany and calls building management to change her locks. Duh! Then she takes off on the vacation they were supposed to leave on a couple of days later and meets a guy who piques her interest. I hung out for a bit thinking it would get better, but their dialogue was so boxy and uninteresting. It wasn’t even flirty, it was just boring. I mean – UGH! Just look at the small section I included. Stick a fork in my eye! And this was all before the 3rd chapter ended! Oh wait! You mean if you get your hair wet, you know how to fix it? You don’t say! Now that’s talent! Good Lord! Is this really the kind of conversation you would have with the guy you just decided to spend your entire vacation with?

I used to read absolutely every book through until the end whether I enjoyed it or not. I had some weird quirk about what I might be missing if I didn’t stick it out. Now I am to the point that I would rather spend my time with books that I enjoy. After 3 chapters, I had to move on from this one. I was curious so I did a little digging. This book was released in 2015 under Samhain Publishing. It had pretty good reviews, which shocked me. Maybe it read differently. I don’t know. But this version I can only currently locate 1 review for and it is raving about this story. So here it is … this is purely my opinion and others may really like this story. If you do, good. I’m glad for the author. But I prefer my books to flow and engage me; the opposite in this case. If you follow my reviews and tend to agree with my opinions, do not waste your time here.
