Excerpt:

When I was about a minute into my walk to the tavern I stopped short at the sight of a large dog running toward me. A few barks were met with a sharp command from his owner to come back, but the dog ignored the order. Right before the tail wagging golden retriever reached me, the woman yelled out, “He won’t hurt you!”
I laughed, because the dog had already thrown his weight against me in a friendly, overzealous action that made me stumble back before I could brace myself. As I bent to pat his head, he jumped up and began to lick the side of my face.
“Down, Samson! I’m so sorry,” the young woman said once she’d reached us. She pulled Samson back by his collar.
“No worries,” I smiled. “I love animals." Growing up, I'd had my share of dogs, cats, birds, and hamsters, but Seth hadn't liked animals so there hadn't been any in my life the last few years. "He’s beautiful.”
“He’s a pest,” she said, still struggling with the active, tail-wagging pooch. “I’m Casey, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Luna.”
We shared a smile, and then both turned when we heard the sound of thundering motorcycles on the road. There were four men riding our way, none of whom were wearing helmets, and I immediately identified them as members of the club down the road. Their attire was identical. From the waist down, they wore jeans and black boots, and from the waist up they wore black t-shirts beneath leather vests with various patches. I also noticed chains hanging from their belts to their pockets. They all had long hair, tattoos, and some degree of facial hair.
The other thing that I noticed they had in common was that they were all brutes, and it was obvious they either worked out or that whatever they did for a living kept them in shape. It was easy to see that they were all tall and appealing in their own rights. However, it was the man in the lead with the bulging biceps and the ropes of veins lining his defined forearms that held my interest. He had the bluest eyes I'd ever seen, the kind that seemed to cut right through you while not missing a thing. His hardened face, tanned by the sun, was attractive if you were into the rugged, square-jawed look.
Everything about him checked all of the boxes for a woman who was in the market for a dangerous bad boy, which I wasn't. Hell, the last thing I needed was a man. His silent perusal unnerved me though, because I had a feeling that he was dissecting me, that he could see all my secrets. It left me feeling raw and vulnerable, and I'd had enough of that particular feeling. I glanced away from him to relay my indifference.
As Casey and I stood together I thought that the bikers would continue past us, but they surprised me by pulling up next to us and stopping. When one of the men jumped off his bike, Casey let go of Samson and jumped into his arms with a girlish squeal.
“Jim!” she cried with a wide smile on her face. "I didn't know you were coming back today!"
“Hey, baby.”His tone was gruff in an expression that matched Casey's. It was clear that there was something special between them.
They hugged and kissed for several seconds, making enough noise that it became uncomfortable to watch. I glanced away, meeting the eyes of the biker who'd pulled up next to Jim. He was greeting Samson, but his eyes were on me. There was a twinkle in his blue eyes, as if he sensed my embarrassment at the public display, and he winked at me. Not wanting to seem rude, I smiled, but then looked away.
“Hey, sweetness, you with Casey?” one of the other bikers asked. He had red hair, a full red beard and a crinkle at the corners of his green eyes that showed that he had some age on him. If I had to guess, I’d have said he was close to fifty.
“No, we just met,” I explained.
“You staying here in camp?” a blonde God asked, showing a row of even white teeth behind his scruff. He was without a doubt the handsomest man I’d ever met, and young, maybe even younger than my twenty-eight years. The twinkle in his green eyes warned me that he was dangerous, but only to a woman’s heart.
“I live here.”As soon as the words were out of my mouth I realized that I probably shouldn’t have admitted it, but if they were going to be around for a while they’d have figured it out sooner or later. Since Casey and Jim were involved and oblivious to their surroundings, I decided to continue my walk to the tavern. “Well, I guess I’ll be on my way.”I started to walk around them, proud of myself for managing to avoid looking at the rugged brute that had made me feel uncomfortable, uncomfortable with the way that he affected my lady bits.
“What’s the hurry, darlin'?”This came from the biker that I'd been hoping to avoid. Samson had moved away, and the man's hands were resting on top of his thick thighs as he balanced his bulk on his bike.
He was wearing biker gloves, the half-finger kind. As I glanced over the patches on his vest, I noticed that he had one on that said “Nomad”, while the other bikers’ patches revealed that they were in the Wreckers MC. His muscular bulk, the bulging muscles that I'd already noticed in his arms, revealed that he was a powerful man. He was nowhere near as handsome as the blonde God, but there was something about him that made him appealing, too appealing for my peace of mind. His square jaw and strong, firm mouth was sensual. Even though his eyes reflected friendliness, I got the impression that this man was dangerous and someone to be careful around.
“I’m hungry,” I finally said, as if that explained everything. I ignored the chuckles of two of his friends, mesmerized by the steel blue of his eyes as they dropped down my body in a lazy assessment that stole my breath.
“Me too,” he returned, his gaze roaming back up my body. "And you're just my type."
Instant heat flushed through me. He was teasing me, and I didn't like the quirk on his mouth. The way he was looking at me made me feel naked in my jean cutoffs and clinging t-shirt. As I felt my nipples betray me by hardening beneath his stare, I took a breath and forced myself to walk away.
"Sounds like your problem," I said indifferently.
There was no way I was getting involved with an obvious bad ass when I’d just gotten rid of one. Well, one who’d thought he was, anyway.

Highlight:

There was no fucking way I was going to watch a repeat performance of her getting off on Puck's leg.
          "What?" she half-laughed, half-gasped.
"You heard me," I growled. "You don't know what you're doing, messing around with these men. They aren't known for saying no to something they want."
She huffed out a laugh. "What are you talking about?" Her tone revealed that she really had no idea. "We were only going to dance."
Her innocence only made me angrier. "Yeah, I saw your first fucking dance with Puck. You think a man gives you an orgasm and he's not looking to get inside your pussy?"
She gasped sharply. "I don’t know, Jace. You tell me. I watched you give that woman an orgasm, is her pussy next?"
It wasn't often someone dared to use my own words against me. I had to give Luna credit for not backing down and acting like the proverbial damsel in distress. She was standing her ground, and she wasn’t afraid to say it like it was. It was dark, but thanks to the dim light over the door, I could make out her expression, which was growing angrier by the second. It almost made me smile. "You forget I got off, too," I said crudely.
Silence followed, and I wondered what she was thinking. It didn't take her long to find her voice.
"Right. Then I'd better go back inside and take care of Puck." She went to grab for the doorknob.
"The hell you will," I snarled, reaching for her. I pulled her away from the door, gripping her roughly around her upper arm.
She pulled away with a cry of anger. "What is your problem, Jace? Why should it bother you what I do with another man? It didn't bother me while you and that woman were humping each other's brains out."
I thought about the telling look she’d had on her face when she'd been watching me with CC, the disappointment and the hurt I’d seen. I'd got off a lot of times letting a woman grind against my dick, but that moment tonight hadn't been my proudest, because I'd done it with something else in mind. I'd purposely set out to hurt Luna and teach her a lesson, showing her that attraction for men like me meant one thing and one thing only. I called her bullshit.
"Liar!" I whispered sharply down into her face. For a minute we just stood staring at each other in the darkness, listening to the sound of each other's breaths. I swear I saw the glistening of tears fill her eyes. "We're not good men, Luna. You come on to one of these men, let him expect something more, and he'll take it, whether you want to give it up or not. That's their fucking world. Luckily Puck's a little more understanding than most. But if that had been me you were rubbing up on, I would have taken you out back and fucked you up against the wall." It was true. Fuck, I wanted to do it now and take care of the itch I'd had for her since I’d looked into her warm, honey eyes on that very first day.
My dick was hard as a rock right fucking now, proving it.
"So, what, this is a warning, Jace? You're the good guy looking out for the innocent, unsuspecting woman?"
"No, baby, I'm not a good guy. I'm worse than any man in there, and you'd do well to stay the fuck away from me."
She yanked her arm away from me and crossed her arms. "I'm twenty-eight years old, Jace, old enough to make my own decisions, and mistakes, if I want to. That's how most people learn," she threw at me in a single breath. "So what makes you think I can't take care of myself?"
I backed her up against the side of the building, ignoring the startled cry that escaped her. Her hands automatically fell against my chest to push me back, but I was stronger than her. I fenced her in between my arms and leaned in close, determined to make her understand the naiveté of her thinking.
          "What are you doing?"
I could hear the slight edge of panic in her tone. "Showing you that you're wrong."
          "Don't make me hurt you."
I would have laughed if not for the seriousness of the situation.
          "Jace, don't."
"I haven't done anything yet," I rasped down at her, inching closer, aware that I was setting myself up for failure because I wanted her so fucking much. I had to steel myself from softening, but my heart was pounding and my throbbing dick was keeping count. "So prove it, Luna. Prove to me that you can take care of yourself against a man determined to get inside your pussy." I felt her knee rise--a typical move, and one I was ready for. "Too slow," I growled, clamping my hand down on her naked thigh. Shit! I'd forgotten she was wearing a tiny outfit that left more of her bare than covered. It was a miracle my dick didn't punch through my jeans.
"Damn, you!" Luna gasped in frustration.
"Swearing won't save you, either," I said, losing some of my anger because fighting with Luna was turning out to be fun. She grunted when she tried to forcibly push me away. I countered by grasping her wrists and dragging her hands above her head, and then transferring both wrists into one hand. I leaned in until her tits were smashed against my chest and my dick was against her lower belly.
She whimpered, and it wasn't with fear.
          "You're an asshole," she whispered.
"Most men are." I began to grind my dick into her. Christ, I wanted to pick her up so that I could grind it right against her sweet spot. "So show me, baby. You've got me all hot and bothered right now. I'm hard as fucking stone. How do you stop me from just taking what I want?"
          "Puck didn't want‒"
She was going to make this about her and Puck? I released an angry snarl. I didn't want to hear about her and Puck, the image of him getting her off one that I wanted to eliminate from my mind. "I'm not Puck," I grunted between my teeth. "I'm just some horny, bad ass biker who takes what he wants." I dropped my hand to her heaving tit, giving it a rough squeeze. "You play with fire, you get burned."
She shook her head in denial. "I wasn't playing!" she hissed. "I have needs just like any man." She sounded frightened. Desperate. I could feel her trembling, and yet her nipple was hardening like a little pebble beneath my palm.
"Yeah. Only you got off, and he didn't. Most men I know wouldn't like that."
"Maybe you know the wrong men," she snapped with fire.
I laughed. She was a twenty-eight-year-old innocent, and totally unaware of her appeal. "You got lucky in there. Next time‒"
"There won't be a next time, Jace," she rushed out. "What happened in there, I don't know why it happened, but it isn't me. I don't go around letting strangers do that to me."
I squeezed her tit and let my hand glide down her body to the hem of her short skirt. "Wrong," I whispered against her parted lips, so fucking horny that I was surprised I wasn't already fucking her into tomorrow. "You're doing it again." My hand slowly glided up the inside of her thigh. "With me. And I'm not the kind of man who'll give you an orgasm and then walk away." I reached the hot spot between her legs, flicking my finger over the thin material covering her sex. "I'll want some kind of reciprocation."
She shivered and sighed. I caught it with my lips by lightly placing my mouth against hers. It was by no stretch of the imagination a kiss, not a real one. It took every ounce of my control not to give in to my baser needs. Her sweet, warm breath invited me in, and it was fucking torture.
"Okay, you've proved your point." She was afraid. I could hear it in her voice. "Lesson learned that I'm unable to protect myself against a horny man."
"You give in too easily, Luna. I'm not totally convinced." She began to struggle, as if sensing that I wasn't going to relent. "What are you worried about, baby?" Fuck she was wet, and the heat coming off her pussy was scorching.
Her breath was coming in little pants. "That I won't say no."
Well, now, that was unexpected. I stopped my thrumming finger as I thought about what that meant. Did she realize what she'd just admitted? It suddenly became apparent that I wasn't the only one here being taught a lesson. Was this a test to see if I could walk away, unsatisfied? Or a desperate attempt to get me to remove my hand from her pussy? She was a tricky little thing.
Shit had suddenly just gotten interesting.
"What if I said no?" I asked gruffly, about to explode in my pants.
A slight pause and then, "That's your prerogative. I don't have a problem going home and finishing this myself."
          Fuck. Me.
"Or returning inside and finding Puck."
          Oh.
          No.
          She.
          Didn't.
          She’d gone too far.
Her words took the thin thread of what control I had left and tore it to smithereens. I snapped, slamming my mouth down on hers in a kiss I meant to be rough and punishing, and it was. I was brutal in my assault of her softer mouth, grinding mine against hers until all she could do was open to my attack and thrusting tongue.

Review:

Luna is running. Having escaped the clutches of her controlling and abusive ex-husband, fearing for the safety of her parents, she hightails it out of town to her grandfather’s run-down trailer located in a fish camp in the middle of nowhere. She keeps her contact with her parents to a minimum and her head down … until she meets Casey. The spirited neighbor quickly introduces her to MC life and her boyfriend, who is a patched member of the club. But what really catches her attention is the huge, broody biker that puts off danger in waves, but immediately draws her in sexually. He’s the absolute opposite of the boring life she’s led the past decade. Despite his claims that he only does casual, she quickly recognizes wanting more from him. He’s just as caught up on her and agrees to exclusive, if only for a short time. If that’s all she can get, she’ll force herself to live with it. But being with Jace is not only learning about a different kind of guy, but it’s also understanding an entirely different way of life and learning to accept all of it. That’s one difficult accomplishment to pull off given the literal danger Luna finds herself in simply for being associated with the club, however slight that connection. But somehow Jace continues to race to her rescue and her heart just keeps pulling her in deeper with each moment she spends with him. Wishing for more won’t make it a reality, but convincing her heart she’ll have to move on after he’s wrecked her for any other man is a different story entirely. But she’s nothing if not a survivor.

Jace is a nomad and has been for approaching 30 years. In his mid-forties, he’s thinking of slowing down a bit. Never one to have even allowed himself to entertain anything so normal as a relationship with a woman, something about Luna immediately enchants him. He can’t put his finger on it, but recognizes there is something completely different about her; their connection intense, their sexual chemistry so far off the charts it doesn’t come close to registering. He might be hanging around for a job, but until another job takes him away, he’ll stay and indulge in this new addiction as much as he can. But he also realizes that there is no hope for a future with him, knowing he’s one of the bad guys, so he tries to shut Luna out and put some distance between them, attempting to set her free. But an unforeseen threat rears its ugly head and Jace is quickly forced back to Luna – hopefully in time to save her and confess his feelings. Because this nomad is ready to curb his roaming ways and set down roots with the beauty who has captured his heart.

I felt like I was coming home with this book. We are back with the Wreckers MC and happily get to revisit with Raze and Rosa as well as Reaper and Marie (both couples from HIS POSSESSION). Also adding to my reading pleasure was a brief interaction with Rebel from the first book in this series, RUTHLESS. This book appears to take place just a few short months following the conclusion of RUTHLESS. Let us address my biggest issue first – Luna is running from her ex and wanting to lay low to avoid him coming after her. However, given her remote location, that possibility is slim. But even as her false sense of security allows her to socialize, she behaves in a way I would define as out of character for herself when she ends up at the club party. So I took a bit of an issue with that. However, I am going to contradict myself next. In behaving out of the norm, she is also embracing her new self and life. She’s spent a decade under the thumb of her Ex, Seth. At eighteen when she married him, she basically “grew up” molded into the person he expected her to be or fear punishment all the while her inner self was warring internally because she wasn’t allowed to be who she really was. Therefore, one could argue that for the first time in her life she is finally the person she always was. See what I mean by contradiction? But understanding where she came from and the experience of her newfound freedom and thinking she expertly covers her tracks, at the end of the day I can’t really fault her for any of it. I mean she has a burner phone for cripes sake, just to keep her parents safe. It’s not like she’s an idiot. I have an unanswered question though: I do wonder if Jace has a name. It stands to reason that Jace is his MC name. I only wonder because Rebel’s true name was revealed in the previous book, yet Jace’s was not. So that lack of info has me curious. Also, I would like to mention that there is what could be a trigger for some within the pages of this book. Rape does occur although much of what is described is the aftermath and recovery both physical and mental. Some abuse occurs within the same time frame. Those of you who are sensitive to this subject matter might want to steer clear or skip that section when it happens. I did think that Ms. Richards did a damn good job of respecting the character that experienced this and not making it the focus of the book after it happened, but also not downplaying her distress by acting as if it never happened. She created a sort of balance between allowing the main characters to continue on their journey while also allowing the assaulted victim to deal with her abuse and find a way to move on from the violence of it all.

As per Mr. Richard’s trademark, this book was chock a block full of erotic scenes. Her main characters always have this electric attraction that creates an itch (as Luna says) that refuses to be scratched no matter how close or far the characters are from one another, nor how often they attempt to scratch it. Always believing it is a temporary state of lust that will alleviate with mind-blowing sex, they are always shocked to realize the lust is love and the itch is a fierce addiction for one another. So that is the same and an element I have come to expect and adore with Ms. Richards books. What was a bit different was the age gap between the characters. Or maybe it wasn’t. I seem to remember Rebel and Ginger having a bit of an age gap as well – but not as big as Jace and Luna. Twenty-eight and forty-four is kind of a jump. However, Jace is not written as an aging old dude. He acknowledges his age and that he desires a few things to be different than several years ago, but neither is he contemplating retiring and disappearing to live out his remaining years in solitude. Instead, he’s a virile man, hardened and wise from his years of experience as a nomad, exuding youth and strength. Hell, who wouldn’t find that attractive? But he’s a bit caught up on their age difference initially. I was actually relieved that he got over it rather quickly because reading about a nomad biker chastising himself for wanting to hook up with a younger, smoking-hot female would have ended up eliciting nausea. It wouldn’t have worked for his character one bit, so I was perfectly fine with the acknowledgment and then acceptance of the fact. Also interesting were Luna’s thoughts and feelings as she learned more about MC life. She knows absolutely nothing about it until Casey brings her into the fold and begins to explain things little by little as subjects come up. Then she learns first-hand through her own experiences. She lashes out with harsh words when she doesn’t understand why certain preventative actions weren’t taken, but she also comes to respect certain aspects as well. While I do not believe that she fully accepted every part of the MC life, she also wouldn’t have had to completely because Jace was never and would never be tied to a particular MC as a patched member. I can’t say as I would have seen some things any different than she did had I been in her position, so I felt her reactions were relevant. In the end, she accepts enough to be able to love Jace and respect his beliefs so that was enough. Luna is a bit of a conundrum though because at times she projects nothing but strength. At times I saw her as weak and too reliant on Jace. But when you really dissect things, it’s splitting hairs on just how strong she is. She wasn’t actually lying in wait, praying for Jace to rescue her. She was formulating plans and acting when necessary. She didn’t ask Jace to come to her aid, nor did she expect it. She just got lucky when he appeared at the right times. So yes, she’s fierce and perfectly capable for the most part and that’s a character I can’t help but like. As far as Jace, he was a given, as are all three of these fantastic nomads. I can’t wait to see who will capture Moody’s heart and lay him flat. Because that guy is up next and he’s got a whole lot of mystery surrounding him.

As an MC read, this one is completely satisfying. Packed full of action and emotion, you won’t be disappointed. I may have enjoyed the first book in this series just a bit more than I did this one, but it wasn’t by much. Maybe half a star as ratings go. With a toggling viewpoint, the reader grasps a good sense of each main character and where their head is. And with a fun and sexy epilogue for one year later, the reader is also brought a fulfilling sense of closure for this unlikely, but perfectly matched couple. I hope that I fall in love with Moody’s book just as much as I did with Rebel and Jace. I suspect it might end up being the best of the three. I will wait until I finish it before I move forward with a recommendation for the entire trilogy, but so far, I can say that any lover of MC erotic romance is sure to enjoy the first two books of the NOMAD OUTLAW TRILOGY. Jace is sure to take you on a wild ride of emotion and action in this wonderfully sexy erotic read. You might be relegated to the back seat of the bike, but the foreplay provided within these pages will leave you breathless and blushing.
