Interview
+ GIVEAWAY with author Debbie Gould
Well, my
lovlies, It has been a while since I have done an interview, so I figured it
was about darn time for me to get one posted for all of you. Today, thanks so
the fabulous Marissa at Sizzling PR, I have the talented Debbie Gould on the
blog. She will be discussing her book Second Chance, which is part of the
Decadent Publishing 1 Night Stand series. I have read several of these
novellas, mostly for review with Just Erotic Romance Reviews (JERR), and I have
enjoyed every one of them. There are so many 1 Night Stand stories from a ton
of authors. If you are looking for some fast erotic reads, you will most
definitely not want to miss this series of books. I highly recommend everyone
to check them out. And with so many contributing authors, there is something
for everyone. If that sounds exciting, wait until you hear about Ms. Gould’s
Book, SECOND CHANCE. *nods* So let’s get to it!
**DEBBIE GOULD**
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, at
the age of two Debbie and her mother moved to New Jersey, spending many happy years on her
grandparents' horse farm. You'll sometimes find this setting as a backdrop in
her work.
As a teenager, she and
her mother found a new home in Vermont,
where she currently resides. With a daughter in the Air Force, one son in college and the other working for
the family business, Debbie now shuffles
her time between a husband and full time job as a nurse, and writing.
About seven years ago,
while looking at over three hundred treasured books lining her shelves, she
realized there was a multitude of stories of her own clamoring for release.
Since then, she's seriously persevered in keeping the keyboard in constant
motion.
With two novels,
Mountain's Echo and Infidelity, and two novellas, November Rain and Second
Chance now published, Debbie is now also working with a partner, L.J. Garland.
Together the two have written Sins of the Mind and are hard at work on many
more manuscripts.
Debbie has been a
member of KOD, FTHRW, ELEMENTS and RWA Online.
**INTERVIEW**
Tell us a
little about your current release Second Chance.
I’d heard about the 1
Night Stand series at Decadent
Publishing, read a few of them and wanted to try my hand at it. The hero is an
Air Force Special Ops Officer who lost his wife in childbirth while he was on
an op. For two years he’s lived on the guilt he feels for not being there for
her. The baby is being cared for and loved by his wife’s sister, Emily. He
financially supports them, but has emotionally distanced himself.
Emily has grown to love
Colin and with the help of one of Colin’s teammates, together they set up the
one night stand where she hopes to show him he can still have the family he
thought he lost. It’s an emotional story of forgiving yourself and allowing
yourself to take that second chance.
Second
Chance is part of the 1 Night Stand series. What can you tell us about the
series?
Madame Eve runs an
online dating service. Applicants fill out information about themselves and
what they are looking for. It’s billed as a one-night-stand service. No strings
attached, but Madame Eve usually works her magic and the dates end up wanting
much more than one night. It’s really a great series and encompasses so many
sub-genre’s such as shifters, paranormal, Sci-fi, just to name a few.
What is
your favorite thing about this book?
The bond that all the
characters have with each other. The H&H have some really helpful friends.
I noticed
that Second Chance is published via Decadent Publishing. Other than writing
under different pen names or different genres, why do readers see authors
commonly published with multiple publishers these days?
Different publishers
offer different things for authors. Like this 1NS series is unique to Decadent.
Some offer print books for any word count, some offer print for a higher word
count, some offer promotion packages. I think it’s all about working conditions
and what a particular author is looking for in a publisher.
I read in
your bio that you just started writing about 5 years ago. How has your life
changed in the last five years since you started writing?
Other than the TONS of
on-line pals I have now and the superb writing partner L.J. Gardner, not much
has changed. I still work the day job and write when I can.
What is
your typical day like?
Up for work at seven,
usually out by four. Home to do the chores and make dinner. I have a new
work-out program I’m fitting in there somewhere, then its to the computer to
write or network. Not too exciting these days, lol.
Any upcoming
projects you would like to tell us about?
L.J. and I have a book,
Sins of the Mind coming out the end of April with Decadent, we’ve also just
finish up a paranormal novel and have several others in the works.
How do
you keep in contact with your readers?
What’s
next for Debbie Gould?
Lots and lots of new
stories with tons of twists!
How do
you celebrate when you finish a novel?
Begin the next. If I
don’t keep going then I’ll fall out of my routine and just sit around and read
for days, lol.
What are
you reading now? Any favorites you tend to go back to?
Right now I’m reading
Kat Martin’s Against the night. Great book! The one I always go back to is Tami
Hoag’s Lucky’s Lady. I just love that book.
Was there
something in particular that gave you the idea for this book (series)?
My daughter is in the
Air Force. All the deployments she’s been on take their toll. I wanted to tell
a story about one man’s reaction when tragedy struck at home while he was
deployed.
What
about (the hero) and (the heroine) made you want to put them together?
He needed her way more
than she needed him, although she may not have thought so. He needed a strong woman that was going to
fight him to win him.
Any
advice you’d like to share for aspiring writers?
Do your research and
keep learning your craft. Most of all get a thick skin and don’t give up!
What is
one thing you know now that you wish you had known when you first started
writing?
The publishing world is
changing so fast, its almost daily. It’s hard to forecast what is going to be
the next great thing so just write what you love and go with the flow.
Do you
have any other hobbies or interests besides writing?
Reading, oh my gosh, I
must have upwards of 600 books on shelves in my room. That and cooking.
Salty or
Sweet?
Salty
What is
your favorite drink?
Water, lol. Never had a
taste for soda, drank warm sour milk when I was 4 or 5 and can’t stand the
stuff now. So water it is.
What is
your favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving. I love
feeding people.
Favorite
place you have ever visited?
New Orleans, I just LOVE that city. It is just filled with history and
passion.
Boxers or
briefs?
Boxers
Long hair
or short hair on a guy?
Short
Caffeine
or Decaf?
Hot Coco
Favorite
midnight snack?
Doritos’s
Are you
an introvert or an extrovert?
Somewhere
in-between. I’m a little introverted until I get to know you, then watch out.
Almond
Joy or Mounds?
Mounds
Do you
have any phobias or fears?
Intense
phobia of ticks, lol. Hate em. I grew up in NJ and they were always getting
attached somewhere in my head, ohhh the torture of getting them out haunts me
today.
Are you a
night person or morning person?
Night,
definitely. I hate getting up in the morning for work.
Favorite
meal?
Steak, crab legs and a
baked potato
How fun
was that interview? Crazy fun! So how about I tell you about Ms. Gould’s book a
bit more? Sound like a plan? Yeah, I thought you might agree. *grins*
**SECOND CHANCE**
**A 1 Night Stand Series Book**
Lieutenant Colin
Beckett, US Air Force special ops, lost his wife in childbirth while off on a
mission. Two years later, he’s still trying to come to
grips with the guilt that tortures him. And to complicate matters, he finds
himself undeniably attracted to his wife's sister, Emily. Struggling with his
desire, he tells himself he doesn’t deserve a second chance with such an
amazing woman.
Emily wants Colin in
her life and her bed. Enlisting the help of Colin's teammate's and Madame Eve's
1 Night Stand dating service, she plans to prove to Colin he can have
everything he lost once again.
Will their one night
lead to the happy ending she longs for or the loneliness he thinks he deserves?
**EXCERPT**
(adult content)
Colin took a step back
and cringed. “Aw, shit, Bobby. What’ve you done?”
Bobby punched Zeke in the
shoulder and shook his head. “Nothing bad. Actually, it’s so simple you’re
gonna kick your ass for not thinking of it first, Ghost.”
He doubted it. More than
likely he would kick Bobby’s ass. The man worked overtime to hook him up, like
he was a damn charity case. If he wanted to get laid, he could go find his own.
Unfortunately, the only woman that spurred his senses in the last year had been
Emily. He wanted her so bad he caught himself thinking about her during the day
and woke up sweat-soaked and hard at night from dreaming about her.
Shit! Maybe he did need
to get laid. “I repeat, what have you done?”
Zeke jumped up. “See,
there’s this woman named Madame Eve––”
Colin threw his hands up.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! This is low even for you. I don’t need a freaking
prostitute. Damn, Bobby. What the hell are you thinking?”
Bobby laughed. “Not that
kind of madame. She runs an elite dating service and sets up one-night stands
for consenting adults. It’s a no-strings-attached kind of thing. Just two
like-minded adults looking for a night of pleasure. That’s it. You both go in
with your eyes open and leave the next more feeling a lot less stressed.”
Colin crossed his arms
over his chest and lifted a brow, “And how does she go about finding these
people and matching them up?”
“Don’t worry I’ve checked
it all out. You go on her website, fill out the application. Then she matches
you up with someone who meets your needs. She names the date and place and the
rest is on you. It’s all legit.”
“You sound like an
infomercial.” Colin shook his head. “This is fucking crazy, ya know. I have no
trouble finding my own women.”
“Never said you did,
Lieutenant,” Zeke said. “But this way you don’t have to troll the bars, hoping
to find a woman who wants to get her rocks off exactly like you. We know that’s
not your scene, but this way everyone gets what they want and walks away
happy.”
Bobby glared at Zeke.
“Where the hell do you come from anyway?” He returned his gaze to Colin. “More
like a night of mutual pleasure.”
“I have my own ways of
relieving stress.”
Bobby snorted. “Uh, yeah.
I’m not talking about whacking off in the shower, dude.”
Colin rubbed his hands
over his face. Good God, had he really been reduced to this? "Fine."
