Reader’s Edyn

I always felt like I could do something more than just read. Finally, I have found both a creative outlet and a chance to do something meaningful with my reading. This blog was created in appreciation of and tribute to all of the authors who have brought me joy through their books. These reviews are my way of giving back to authors and providing recognition for the hard work that each one completes every day!

**EXCERPT**

I continued walking down the street, as suddenly another paparazzi jumped out of the alleyway and we both jerked back, completely shocked at the lengths they would go to just to get the so called perfect shot. We suddenly bumped into another person attempting to juggle a small bag of groceries, her cell phone, and I watched as a drink fell on the ground.
“Oh shit!” the young lady screamed. Right as she bent down I followed suit to help clean up the mess. Her features were intoxicating, even with the light glare of the camera flash, and seeing spots from the flash. She couldn’t have been over 5’6” or 5’7”. Our hands grazed over picking up her keys; just then an electric pulse thrummed through my body and caused us both to pull back. She was smiling and thanking me profusely until she looked up and met my gaze.
“Wait, it’s you!” she replied, jumping back in shock.
“Yeah, I get fans at random times recognizing me and wanting an autograph and a picture, but I’m on a date, so I’ll have to decline, I hope you can understand.”
“Trust me, the last thing I want from you is an autograph,” she scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Oh, my God! You ruined my dress!” Elizabeth shouted, wiping her hands down her dress to try to slough off the frozen concoction that had spilled all down her front.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked.
“My cell phone might be broken,” the young lady replied, bending down and cursing under her breath. I reached over and picked up her torn grocery bag to put her things on the ground that scattered away when I suddenly noticed a vibrator sitting next to her pint of Chunky Monkey ice cream.
“Looks like you're planning on having an eventful night tonight,” I said, not bothering to
hide my smirk.
“Give me that back,” she spat as she grabbed the vibrator from me and threw it back in her bag. I could see the flush climbing up her neck, making me wonder what she looked like when she climaxed during sex.
 “What's the rush?”
“If you focused more on your posture, and listening to your coach, rather than being selfish and doing your own thing, and less on what I have in my bag, you’d be hitting your stats,” the sassy woman snapped, giving me a rundown on what I needed to
improve on.
“Oh, you’re one of those.” She reached out and grabbed her keys, picking up the torn bag.
 “One of what?”
“A baseball fanatic that thinks they know the game better than the professionals. It’s cute, babydoll, but I’m good over here.” She chortled in laughter.
“The last World Series the Washington Nationals won, Stephen Strasberg was named MVP. The Nationals extended their lead to 6–2 in the ninth inning, with two runs scoring on a one-out single by Eaton with the bases loaded. And my girl, Simone Biles, a Houston native and Olympic gold medalist, threw out the first pitch in the second game. You know that black girl magic reigns supreme.” She spoke eagerly, with a sarcastic undertone. I could only smile.
“So you do know a little something about baseball,” I said stepping in further to close the gap between us.
 “Gage!”

His features contorted into an anguished grimace. “And yet, you’re at the bottom of the league,” he responded with a hint of sarcasm.

“Mr. Young-“
 “Gage.”

“I'm not calling you Gage.”
 “Want to bet?”
“You don't have anything I want.”
“From the looks you were giving me the other night, there's a lot that you need.” “Coach, the girls are ready to line up,” my assistant called over, effectively interrupting our back and forth bickering.
“Okay, get them started on some running drills." Feeling a headache coming on, I rubbed my temples. I wanted to smack that cocky smirk off his face.
 “What does that meanexactly?”
"It means your little toy. How about this, you put Tailynn in and if she excels or improves during practice for the next two games, let her play in that position for two games and then I'll sit quietly in silence for the rest of the season.”
"And what do I win if she doesn’t make a hit?”
“Instead of using the toy, I get a kiss?”
"Why would I let you kiss me on the lips and how is that a win for me?” I sassed in response, arching an eyebrow and crossing my arms over my chest.
“Who said anything about your lips up top? Obviously, the ones below need a little more attention, based on your toy preferences.” My mouth hung open in shock. Before I could respond, Tailynn ran over.
“Daddy, make sure you get a good seat to watch me,” Tailynn said, effectively breaking our tense standoff. Soon, more parents filed into the bleachers, clapping and screaming. Gage walked over to sit near my assistant and staff in the dugout, pointing to the field trying to give plays, letting his proposal hang in the air like a cloud. Not wanting to show any interest, I shifted away from my disbelief and continued on with practice.
“Okay, girls. Amy, you go to third base; Bridget, you're the shortstop; and Tailynn, I want you to catch,” I explained, blowing my whistle, clapping my hands, and directing the girls into position. I heard a loud whistle. Looking over my shoulder, I saw Tailynn’s father, shaking his head, as he sat in the dugout. Amy was at bat and Patrice
was up to pitch. I blew the whistle and the girls started up today’s practice. Looking back over my shoulder I saw that he had left the dugout and was talking to one of the other parents, and she of course was giggling at everything he was saying. “Out!” I heard the umpire scream and I turned just in time to see him jump up for joy at winning the first round of the bet. I wasn’t planning on kissing him, let alone going out with him. I focused back on the girls to do another drill. This was silly, and hopefully he didn’t put the cart before the horse because this was going to be a two out of three games in order to keep this bet going. He walked toward me and stuck out his hand.
“What’s that for?” I questioned, watching the grin curve into a beautiful set of pearly white teeth.
“It’s just good sportsmanship to shake hands to start the competition. Like I said, if Tailynn continues to improve and wins during practice, then I get my kiss and you have to go out on a date with me.”
“Slow your roll on the date part and you’ve got yourself a deal.” I told.
