Reader’s Edyn

I always felt like I could do something more than just read. Finally, I have found both a creative outlet and a chance to do something meaningful with my reading. This blog was created in appreciation of and tribute to all of the authors who have brought me joy through their books. These reviews are my way of giving back to authors and providing recognition for the hard work that each one completes every day!

TWILIGHT meets GAME OF THRONES

There is no rest for Reina Caraway. After a new foe arrives in Le Couvènte, he wipes the young Queen’s memory and transports her to Germany where she lands right in the middle of an ages-old clan war.

Between advanced training of her creator abilities, Council meetings, typical territorial disputes, and wedding planning, Reina is looking forward to rest. Rest that won’t come.

When a mysterious stranger arrives in Le Couvènte and succeeds in erasing Reina’s memory, he abducts her to Germany, landing her right in the middle of three powerful vampire clans. With flashbacks haunting her, Reina longs for something familiar even if it leads her to a dark, roguish vampire intent on seducing her.

Desperate to find his Queen and sister, Heath goes undercover as a spy for the conniving, Calabria, leader of the second most powerful clan with eyes on the highest clan throne. Meanwhile, Reina attracts the attention of the top clan leader, Marius, who is determined to claim her and her blood. But warring clans are the least of her concerns compared to a demonic vampire hellbent on devouring the creator Queen and her infinite powers.

Queen Reina’s trials take a dark and deadly turn in Requiem, the third installment in the Roseblood Series. After her downfall, will she rise from the ashes?

**EXCERPT**

I froze. Roark took deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down until the bloodthirst in his eyes dissipated. Then, he inched toward me slowly. “I get it now. Marius sensed what I couldn’t. Why anyone would give up their throne for just one taste of your blood. Why you have more seekers than any other girl in Europe.”
“What?” I held my breath as he closed the distance between us, his dark shadow impaling my body.
“You’re a fucking symphony. You taste like four seasons. Like Aphrodite herself. You’re a goddess. A siren. There’s immortality in your blood. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
I thought back to that day in Kenneth’s manor. The invisible power I’d wielded.
“I’m not…human?”
“You’re human and beyond human,” responded Roark, cupping my cheeks, eyes shifting between each of mine.
I pressed my hips to his while leaning my chest away. Something was rearing. Combusting inside me. Aiming for my hand. Before Roark could lean in to kiss me, I raised my hand, retorting, “Beyond human…like this?” I opened my palm to reveal a fireball. Like a flaming white diamond the size of a golf ball. Even as I exhaled, Roark joined his hand with mine, extinguishing the fire right before he pressed his lips to mine, driving all other thoughts from my mind.

The door closed. A moment later, the vampire approached. Little by little, his chill encroached onto mine. Thanks to the blindfold, I didn’t realize how close he was until his finger gently touched the underside of my chin, tempting, coaxing until he’d tilted my face up to his satisfaction.
“You are much younger than I expected. But then again, I suppose the prophecy did dictate eighteen.”
What did he know of the prophecy? It was a closely guarded Le Couvènte secret. Even I had never seen the book that contained the answer to my throne, the answer to my life.
“Hmm…I always believed greatness lay embedded in your brother. But we are all wrong at some points.”
“Mistakes make you human,” I mocked him, wishing I could read his expression.
“Yes, spirited. Just like your mother. But with some of your father’s control.”
His voice carried an intimacy, a closeness, an awareness from beyond…beyond my birth.
“Since you know so much about me, mind sharing your name?”
“Moore, Malcolm Moore.” I didn’t recognize his name. Not even references. “You would not know my name, Reina,” he added.
“Who are you?” I asked again, twisting my head to the side as I felt his presence move behind me. “What do you know?”
“Oh, I know many things.”
When his hand seized my neck, it felt like icicles clawing into my skin. I froze, hearing a deep breath escape his mouth. He leaned in until his lips skimmed my upper neck just below my ear.
“I look forward to tasting you,” he whispered, rubbing his mouth along my throat, causing me to shiver, instinctively arching my neck to try and escape. “Your blood could serenade even the strongest of vampires.”

The vampires bound my hands behind my back. Colder than death, than war, than pain, colder than all the vampires I’d touched in my lifetime was the hand that came down on my shoulder, forcing me to my knees. His fingers swept my hair to the other side of my neck. A soothing breath on my neck.
You may lose your powers. You can never lose yourself. Reina Elizabeth Caraway.
I inhaled deep. I am the Queen of Le Couvènte. I hung onto the knowledge. Let it rock me like an avalanche of truth. Daughter of vampires and werewolves. The child of prophecy. A human creator.
And the woman I will love to my dying breath. Raoul whispered his words like a dream.
Malcolm’s hand encircled my neck to become a vice, anchoring me till I was motionless. Like a single drop of snow, Malcolm pressed his lips against my neck…and bit.
Raoul!” I shrieked inside and out.
I bit down on my lip hard, drawing blood. The vampire stabbed his fangs hard into my neck, deep beneath the canvas of my skin. Injected his power into my bloodstream. I felt a sudden jerking.
I gulped and cried out, “You cheap, soulless bastard!” I struggled against the ropes, squeezing back tears as I felt my powers leeched from me one by one. “You could have used venom!”
Malcolm broke from my skin and I felt my blood trickling down. His eyes landed on mine, swollen and red as two blisters, his lips parted, dripping from my blood. “Where’s the fun in that?” He gripped my chin and I recoiled. “Come now, let’s see how strong Le Couvènte’s prized Queen really is.”

I threw my head back and screamed as I set fire to the cage of roses and flew above the flames, leaving nothing but ashes in my wake.
This was not the end. This was not my requiem. Malcolm had sucked me like a parasite. But for everything, there was a time. This was not my time to give up. This was not my time to break my crown. He believed he could wear my crown? It was bought with my human flesh. With fire and roseblood. I’d paid the price for that crown.
I owned white, muscled wings and wolf teeth. And an immortal beating heart.
I owned that power.
Because I was a mother-fucking creator.

One word, little Queen. I could care less about Calabria’s territorial aims. So, be my blood slave. Come to me now and I will not raise my hand to your precious city.
At once, I received his vision. His nightmare. Of immortality spent as a fallen creator. A give and take of daily torture. Of passing me enough powers to resist him, to make it more pleasurable for him. A blood whore. And a royal slave. I wanted to vomit.
Never, I seethed, careful not to transfer the word but to merely think it. I couldn’t betray our secret. Our one advantage over him. Take your mommy issues and go to hell.
You will agree to my hell before this is over.
