Reader’s Edyn

I always felt like I could do something more than just read. Finally, I have found both a creative outlet and a chance to do something meaningful with my reading. This blog was created in appreciation of and tribute to all of the authors who have brought me joy through their books. These reviews are my way of giving back to authors and providing recognition for the hard work that each one completes every day!

**EXCERPT **

I burst through the back door, stumbling into the
kitchen. Moose bounded in behind me and slid to a stop, his
nails grating as he fought for traction on the floor.
The kitchen was empty. “Cal,” I called, catching my
breath. I still hated running, but my new training regimen
had forced me to develop some endurance, whether I’d wanted
to or not. “Cal! Torren!”
The sound of movement came from two areas of the
house. The sound of footsteps pounding up the stairs from
the basement and down from the second floor reassured me
that I’d been heard. Callum was the first into the kitchen,
knocking open the basement door, a fierce look on his face.
Torren was a second behind, coming into the kitchen from
the direction of the living room, clearing the corners of the
room with his gun as he entered.
Cal’s eyes darted over me, as if he was checking for
injuries. I waved his concern for me away. “I’m fine, but,
something’s wrong. Angus was here, we were talking about
things—and then he was gone.” I wrapped my arms around
my middle, fear beginning to worm through my gut. “Cal, he was scared.”
Understanding dawned on Cal’s face and he shot a glance
over my head to Torren. “We need to go. Grab a bag.”
Torren nodded and left the room without a word.
“Laney, did Angus say anything at all before he left? Anything
to give you an idea where he was going?”
I shook my head. “We were talking and then it was like
he was looking somewhere else. I heard him say the word
‘NO’ and then he disappeared.”
Torren appeared back in the kitchen, a black backpack
slung over his shoulder. He handed another one to Callum
then looked at me. At my questioning look, he said, “Go
bags. Supplies we might want to have.” His eyes flicked over
me, from head to toe. “Are you armed right now?”
I nodded, my hand sliding around to the holster I wore.
It had become a requirement. Another change for me to get
used to. I didn’t leave the house without at least one weapon
on me. “Gun, extra mags. Knife in my boot.”
“Then let’s go. We’ve got ourselves a devil to find.”
